We both love large art installations and have made the trip to Palm Springs to check out Desert X many times. It is an ultra unique gathering of large scale art held every spring in the surrounding area- a quick drive from the Ace to any of the many free exhibits is well worth it and truly like nothing else anywhere in the world. Past exhibits include a house on a remote cliff built entirely out of mirrors and a wooden maze in the middle of the flat desert.
The Palm Springs Art Museum is a beautiful facility to walk around with over 12,000 objects on the campus and something for everyone. The collection is fantastic. We highly recommend visiting. Thursday nights are free.
While we have no recommendations on cheap green fees or the best course to play, keep in mind that it is easy and fast to drive to other parts of the Coachella Valley via The 10 Freeway if you seek out a course that's not in Palm Springs.
Downtown is a walking-friendly area full of a variety of shops and great restaurants at all price ranges. Discover lots of unique vintage, art, and locally-made goods.
We really enjoyed the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (the world’s largest rotating tram car). It travels over 2.5 miles up Chino Canyon, to an 8,500 ft peak full of wilderness, and the hiking trails of Mt. San Jacinto State Park. Observation deck and a restaurant at the top. Bring warm clothes for the top. Snow in April is common.
