How we met

Oh what a night

It was a Saturday night and the lacrosse team was having a party with the baseball team. I was friends with Drew, one of the players on the baseball team (who also happens to be one of Doug's good friends) and he knew about my brother Connor being at West Point. He told me before the party he was going to be bringing some Naval Academy guys over to the house. I got excited :) I dressed up a little extra nice that night. When Doug, Tyler, Thomas, and Zach walked in I was in awe (like jaw drop). They were all so handsome but my eye could not leave Doug. We started talking and did not stop the whole night. On his way out he asked for my number. I texted him first saying what a great night I had and that hopefully we could see each other again. Two weekends later he came back to West Chester and we went on our first date at Iron Hill... then I fell in love. -Erin

How we really met

Wait what's your name?

Thomas, Tyler, Zach, and I were hanging out at my parents' house after going to the Army-Navy Soccer in Philly the previous night (that ironically Erin was also at) when Thomas asked if we could go out in West Chester that night. I texted my friend Drew, who invited us to a party at the Women's lax house. When we got there Drew introduced me to a beautiful girl named Erin. We talked for a few minutes when I realized that I completely forgot her name. I introduced her to my friends so I could hear her name again. I remembered her name this time (she admitted to me later that she did not remember my name either, so we must have made quite the impression on each other ) and we continued to talk for the rest of the night. Unfortunately for Tyler, Thomas, and Zach, I had pretty much ditched them in the party...where they knew no one...so I could talk to Erin which meant they were pretty ready to head home for the night. Before we left I made sure I got Erin's number, because I knew then she was special. I came back two weeks later to take her out to dinner at Iron Hill in West Chester and the rest is history.. -Doug

The proposal

Yahh man

Doug proposed on December 15, 2017 in Jamaica. We had gotten to Jamaica a couple days prior but the weather had not been very good. So the first clear night Doug asked me to go see the sunset and then go to dinner. We got dressed up and I had asked him if I should wear my nicer dress (just in case) he said no I looked good the way I was. As we were walking I noticed that he kept putting his hands in his pockets... something he normally doesn’t do so then I got a little excited :) as we were walking towards a beautiful spot on the rocks a photographer comes up and asks if we want our pictures taken (back story: throughout the last couple days we were saying no to any photographer who asked us) Doug says yes...after that I got a little suspicious... but we started taking some pictures and as I leaned up against his chest I could feel and hear his nervousness. “Babe what is wrong with you?” I ask him and at that moment he turned to face me and asked me if I would do him the pleasure of marrying him. It was everything I dreamt it would be and more. - Erin

The proposal in depth

Are you serious?

She told me that I needed to make sure that three things were done. One, make it a surprise (Top priority since she thought I could not pull it off), two, have someone capture the moment, and three, have her looking good with her nails done (not hard since she always looks great). For a couple days prior I tried to convince her that it was NOT going to happen in Jamaica. Since I was using her great-grandmother’s ring for the proposal and Erin knew where the ring was, her mom wanted me to get the ring at the last possible moment before leaving for Jamaica so it could be a surprise. Erin’s Dad slipped me the ring in the car on the way to the airport. On the first day of nice weather I went to the resort photographer’s office to see if I could get a someone to take pictures of our proposal. They came up with a plan for a resort photographer to ask if we wanted to take pictures as we walked by. I asked Erin if she would come see the sunset with me. She looked perfect and her nails were done! As we were walking the photographer asked us if we wanted to take pictures according to the plan. At this point Erin was starting to get a little suspicious, but we headed out to a jetty on the water. The photographer began his mini photo shoot with a variety of poses. As my nerves began to grow the photographer told Erin to put her hands on my chest for a pose. Erin could feel my heart beating out of my chest and asked me what was going on. I decided to abandon the original plan and just do the proposal right then and there. I got down on one knee and asked this very special girl to marry me. I was expecting to get a quick “yes” from Erin but instead all I got was “Are you serious!? Are you joking with me!?” She finally said yes after about 30 seconds of me there on my knee. We took some more pictures before calling our parents and celebrating with a nice dinner. This night will always be special for us and the island of Jamaica will always have a special place in our hearts.
