How do I get to Mackinac Island?

Answer

Do I have to stay at Mission Point Resort?

Answer

You are welcome to stay anywhere on the Island or even come over just for the day. The final ferry however is 9:00 which means leaving the reception at 8:20 pm. The advantage to Mission Point Resort is that your 2nd night is covered, you only pay for the 1st night lodging, incidentals and rentals. (All lodging requires a 2-night minimum on the island) It is also convenient to walk back to your room after the reception and you will get to enjoy all of the resort amenities. Most inns on the island offer very few amenities for the same price.

How do I get around the island?

Answer

You can walk almost everywhere - if you are in heels. For longer distances.... you can call for a horsedrawn taxi or rent a bicycle. Bring walking shoes so you can enjoy the shops, state parks, tours, and butterfly house if you like.

How do I get my things to the hotel?

Answer

You will want to hire a porter to take your things in their small trailer or on their bicycle. There will be porters waiting at the ferry dock that offer this service. The hotel will store your things until check in time so be sure you have your items clearly labeled with your name and Mission Point Resort.

What do I do with my luggage so that I can stay and enjoy the island on Sunday?

Answer

Yes! Enjoy the island on Sunday. There is no need to rush to the ferry after check out. The hotel will store your bags for you after checkout. You can retrieve your things later when you are ready to board the ferry. The final ferry departs at 9:00 pm.

What should I be sure to pack?

Answer

Bring walking shoes, attire for the wedding, a coat as it will be cool in the evening, sun glasses, sunscreen, a bathing suit if you wish to enjoy the pool, snacks, an umbrella just in case, and comfortable clothes so you can relax and enjoy the sights. Don't forget your dancing shoes for the reception!

What do I do with my luggage once I arrive on the island when it is too early to check in?

Answer

Luggage Guests can arrange luggage transfer through the Mission Point dock porters. When you arrive at the ferry dock, the Shepler’s or Arnold Transit Company team will tag your luggage for Mission Point. Once it arrives on the island, our dock porters will deliver it to Mission Point Resort, where guests can pick it up at the bell stand. Luggage is generally delivered within one to a few hours following your arrival on the island. If you prefer to keep your luggage with you instead of having it delivered to the resort, you can let the ferry staff know and request a generic tag to pick it up directly at the island dock after disembarking.
