A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... STAR WARS Wait, wrong story. Let's try again. Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea. No, that's not it... In a land? In a time? In a land before time? No, No, No! How's it start!? Oh, here it is. Found it! It all began some 15 years ago, in a small town on the side of a mountain, somewhere in Pennsylvania. A young lady named Elizabeth (or Liz, for short). It should be noted that she is short, not too short or anything, but kind of short. Anyway, Liz is attending her first semester at Lehigh University. That's where she meets...well she meets me! I'm Doug. Hello. So, the story of Liz and Doug meeting goes like this: we first met at a social event at my fraternity at Lehigh. We had instant chemistry and immediately formed a strong friendship. Now, we didn't start dating right away, but we did spend a lot of time together, made some incredible friends, and unforgettable memories. We eventually realized the strong bond that we had developed, and it became blindingly obvious we were supposed to be together. So that's exactly what we did. By the time we graduated from Lehigh, we were ready to take on the world. Liz and Doug's Excellent Adventure. And although it's been 15 years since our meeting at Lehigh, I did finally ask Liz to marry me. And she said "Yes!" So now, I get to marry my best friend and soul mate, which makes me the luckiest man alive. Deep down, I always knew she was the one. I guess I'm just a little slow sometimes. Through all time and space, and through all the ups and downs, it was always meant to be. Fate really. Funny how it all works out.
Liz and Doug took a relaxing weekend trip to Charlottesville to enjoy their shared love of wine, hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains, and taking in the sights of beautiful spring blooms last April. Little did Liz know, Doug was planning MUCH more than a vino drinkin' and Dave Matthews Band jammin' weekend. After a *few* wine tastings at our local favs, they went back to the bed & breakfast to get ready for dinner. That's where Doug got down on one knee to ask Liz the big question! She said "yes" and they drank some champagne that Liz's parents had slipped to Doug for the occasion in an extra bag. Let the record show that Liz did find it suspicious that Doug had packed TWO bags, but she thought to herself "Oh well duh...we may need it to help haul wine home." Then they celebrated with some delicious food at the Ivy Inn Restaurant. No pictures of these events exist, because, well...our phones died (bring extra chargers people - there's little service out in Virginia wine country). However, it was perfectly us, intimate and private. We're so happy we found each other again. Better late than never, right?! We're looking forward to celebrating our love with you all. In the words of Dave Matthews, "Celebrate we will, for life is short but sweet for certain."
