Maid of Honor
As Colleen's favorite sister, Erin has been tasked with the duty of being her maid of honor! Despite being almost three years younger, Erin played the role of "big sister" in most of Colleen's life, so she's perfect for this current job. Being close in age, Colleen and Erin played soccer together growing up, got ready for date parties in college together, and Erin even invented a "Cabin Olympics" for Colleen's 30th bday at the lake house in New Hampshah. Erin is a chemist at Titleist and will graduate with her masters from Tufts in Engineering just a few weeks before the wedding. (Hit her up if you need new Pro V1 golfballs!) She is a pole dance fitness instructor in her spare time and lives in Providence, RI with her boyfriend Jordan. She was a vocal performance major at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins and will be performing at the ceremony as well.
Bridesmaid
Hanna and Colleen met in 1994 as both of their families had just moved to Utah from far away (Colleen's family is originally from the Philadelphia area and Hanna's is from Hamburg Germany!) Hanna's family soon became as close as extended family with the McDermott's and they shared holidays, school pick-ups, and even clothes growing up. From playing with Barbies, to inventing games to torture our little sisters with, to listening to Britney Spears in high school to dinners out in San Francisco, Hanna has always brought adventure to Colleen's life. She currently lives in the Bay Area with her husband Ariel, her dog Luna, and her daughters Aria and Eliza. Colleen subtly convincing Aria to become a doctor as well.
Bridesmaid
Kristen and Colleen happened to sit together on the first day of school in 1999 and the rest is history. From playing Pokemon to Girl Scouts, to winning soccer games (as long as our coach/Kristen's dad wore his lucky shirt!), to night-snowboarding at Brighton in high school, Kristen was a great friend to grow up with. Intern year, we got extra bonding time as Colleen and Kristen were trapped in Kristen's studio apartment for five days during the Texas freeze in 2021. (Kristen worked from home while Colleen watched three seasons of America's Next Top Model.) We recovered by enjoying an Aperol Spritz on the beaches in Croatia during Colleen's first research year. Kristen now lives in Austin Texas where she is both a new Dog Mom to her puppy Summer, a Master of Public Affairs (and fellow COVID 2020 grad school grad) and a spreadsheet queen! If you need a trip planned- look no further!
Groomsman
Andy and Doug have been friends since 1989 when he graciously began his role as Doug's older brother and childhood "tutor". He ensured Doug always had a leg up in school by coming home and teaching him about what he was learning in math class in elementary school. Years later, he shared all the best books his college classes assigned. He also "tutored" Doug in the most important parts of college by inviting him to stay with him at Penn during Spring Fling while Doug was still in high school. (If Sheara and Jon are reading this, I think this means that they took a tour of the business school together and maybe went to the library to study all night...) Andy now lives in the Philly area with his partner Renee (and their cat!). He does sales for a PA-based startup brand and frequently travels all over for work, but we're often lucky enough to catch him in Lower Merrion during trips to the City of Brotherly Shove... I mean Love.
Groomsman
Sam (Doug's younger brother) showed up on the scene in 1993 and has followed in Doug's footsteps at Echo Hill, Penn and NYC. He shares Doug's love of travel, skiing and the outdoors. They've spent many nights on each other's respective couches, shared beautiful hikes in California and Utah... and he can almost keep up with Doug on the slopes. Sam is moving back to New York after living in Austin, TX. He works in growth consulting and recently took several weeks exploring New Zealand between jobs!
Best Cat
Colleen and Hannah Fiske wandered to the Utah Humane Society one afternoon after skiing at Alta "just to look at the cats". A little black kitten crawled out of her cat tree and sat in Colleen's lap, and Colleen was forced to take her home. What can you do. Doug is "not a cat person", but now has come to "tolerate" her as his "cat roommate". (Whom he buys presents and Halloween costumes for...?) Unfortunately, when googling "How to incorporate cat into wedding", Colleen found that the internet did not recommend actually bringing Olive to the reception or ceremony, but she will be there in spirit to help make it a purr-fect day!
