When Taz and Dorcas signed up to go on a medical mission trip to Haiti, the last thing they expected was to meet their future spouse, but God has a way of changing lives in unexpected ways. From the moment he saw her, Taz began to notice this West African girl, and she soon returned the attention. Over the course of the week, he was impressed by her servant's heart and hospitality, while she admired the way he sincerely cared for his patients. As they parted ways at trip's end, both were inwardly determined that they would see each other again. One week later, Taz invited her to visit his church. On the way, he asked if she'd be interested in going on a date with him. She said "let's try it," and the rest is history.
Taz initially planned to propose in December of 2020, but when he got ahold of the ring early that summer, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to wait that long. A trip together to visit his parents in San Marcos provided the perfect opportunity. Taz convinced Dorcas to have a photo shoot with their friends, Sam and Suzanne. He suggested doing the shoot at the church where he had grown up, and where, unbeknownst to Dorcas, a surprise was waiting. After taking several photos, Sam distracted Dorcas by showing her a... captivating YouTube video while Taz slipped away. A few minutes later, the fiancée-to-be received a mysterious text, asking her to come find him. Sam, Suzanne, and Mrs. Turner led her to the church door. Inside, she saw a trail of rose petals and bible verse clues that lead her to the prayer path Taz had built for his Eagle Scout Project. Turning a corner on the path, she saw him standing on a bridge as the song “African Queen” by 2Face played. “This prayer path represents our walk with God,” he said. “I’d like to do the rest of my walk with you right next to me.” Taz knelt, took out the ring, and asked “Veux-tu m’épouser?” Dorcas responded immediately with a joyful “Oui,” and the pair were officially engaged.
