Though Emily and Donald grew up on opposite coasts, they quickly found they had a shared passion for running, spending time outside, reading, crosswords, games, and so much more - including spending quality time with friends, family, and one another. Their "how they met" story could not be more D.C. if they tried. After connecting on Hinge - like the good millennials they are - in early January 2019, it took a government shutdown for Emily and Donald to meet that month. Thanks to the power of technology, the conversation started when Donald was in Davos ahead of the World Economic Forum and Emily was in Arlington, VA preparing for what was looking like weeks without being able to support her client, FEMA, in its critical work. As fate would have it, the entire government shut down just so that Donald could fly back home 10 days early to his own Arlington apartment, only a few blocks away from Emily's. Who knows if the date would have actually happened had it been 10 more days! Donald proposed a walk around the monuments for their first date, but Emily suggested they opt for something inside - it was a rare single-digit-temperature day. After spending hours in a coffee shop talking over tea, the conversation continued and hasn’t stopped since! Over the next few months, Donald won Emily over with his thoughtfulness and impressive bowling skills, while Donald was excited that Emily proposed a 10-mile run (around the monuments, of course) for their 4th date. Since their first date, life has taken them to California for graduate school and on a road trip across the country. Amidst of all of these moves, Donald proposed at sunrise on Cadillac Mountain in Maine after 3 months on the road. Though the fog was too thick to see any sunrise, the day was still magical and meaningful as both Emily and Donald's family was there to celebrate. After settling down in Colorado and planning a wedding, we are excited to celebrate the beginning of this next adventure with you all!
