How We Met

Tinder-ella Story

In early March 2019, Carmen and Donald were both living in Fort Worth, TX and dabbling in online dating when they swiped right on each other and started talking. Carmen told Donald fairly quickly that she was moving back home to Atlanta at the end of July to start her next master's program at Emory, but this was surprisingly not a concern to Donald. After a few weeks of texting and a thorough social media background search, Carmen agreed to meet Donald for lunch on Saturday, March 23, at Mesero, a Mexican restaurant. When their queso was being presented (yes, presented), a waiter dropped a chip and Carmen said "man down" which made Donald laugh (off to a good start, laughing at a low effort joke). During lunch, they discovered that Donald went to high school with one of Carmen's housemates sophomore year at Berry, and knew of people Carmen went to high school with from the Governor's Honors Program. It was also coincidental that both were from Georgia, and they moved to Fort Worth around the same time in August 2017--Carmen to attend TCU, and Donald to work at Lockheed Martin. After lunch, Donald suggested heading next door to a martini bar for a drink. While they were enjoying a drink, Donald asked Carmen out for a second date the following day to see a TCU basketball game. Carmen said yes before actually realizing what she said yes to, but once she realized what she said yes to after he bought tickets, she invited him to have dinner at her apartment before the game. After a lovely first date, Carmen spent the rest of the evening and the next morning cleaning her apartment and cooking dinner. It was Donald's first of many meals he's since termed "Chicken Carm": chicken, a vegetable, and some type of potato. Carmen's cooking didn't send him running (a surprise), and Nash was very friendly to this new man. After the game, Donald walked Carmen home, and much to Carmen's disappointment, still did not kiss her goodbye. A few days later on Thursday, Carmen invited him over to watch Bohemian Rhapsody. It's a favorite movie of Carmen's, and Donald feigned enthusiasm at the time, but he later said it was fine but not his favorite. Rude. Even more rude, however, was still no goodbye kiss at the end of that evening. They already had plans to attend a local brewery's anniversary event that weekend, so surely he liked her, so what was he waiting for?! On Friday, Carmen invited Donald to join her for her weekly Friday night Chick-fil-A dinner, and later that evening he FINALLY initiated their first kiss. The next couple days were a whirlwind with the brewery event on Saturday and tickets to the ballet that Heather gifted Carmen on Sunday. So if you're keeping count, that's 6 dates within the first 9 days after meeting in person. The next few months were your classic honeymoon phase of a new relationship, and both saw a future with each other. Over the summer, Donald let his leaders know that he'd be open to opportunities at the Marietta Lockheed facility. As luck would have it, a couple weeks before Carmen was moving back home, Lockheed offered Donald a promotion and relocation to Marietta, and they wanted him in Marietta right after Labor Day. It was almost like there was an invisible string tying them together all along. And the rest, as they say, is history...
