How we met

2009

We met in high school when Kyla moved to Howick in 2009. When Dom’s sister, Becky, started grade 8 in 2010 Kyla was appointed as her mentor. Kyla and Becky would visit and Dom started to tag along. This is how we became friends.

How it became official

6 April 2014

During 2013 Dominic was working in Monaco and Kyla was studying at TUKS. Dom made the first move and reconnected with Kyla. We often messaged each other, this turned into a daily chat and we became best friends. In 2014 Kyla visited Dom and they had an unforgettable time in France together. Dom, being the romantic he is, asked Kyla to be his girlfriend on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on the 6th of April 2014.

So it’s official, now what?

2014 - 2019

The 8 months of long-distance were tough but we made it work and eventually we were together again living in a new country when Kyla moved to Monaco to study and work with Dom. The year we lived abroad was amazing and full of unforgettable memories. When we moved back to South Africa we were lucky enough to work together once more as we began our careers at Smarter Business. These years together have been full of love, laughter and extraordinary experiences. Let's not forget about the daily questions Dom received about when he was going to pop the question which leads us into the next part of our story...

The Proposal

14 September 2019

I always thought I would know but the proposal was a complete surprise! We went away with my family for “an early birthday weekend for my mom” to throw me off. My grandparents and even my cousin from Joburg were there. Taryn took my grandparents, my sister Kelsey and I out for coffee while Dom and the rest of his family and mine setup the beach. That afternoon the guys called us to have sundowners on the beach and I didn’t think anything of it. When I got there I thought it was someone else and I didn’t want to get my hopes up but it was Dom waiting in a big heart made from driftwood and flowers. He proposed with the most beautiful ring made by my cousin, Kimmy, how special! His family also jumped out from behind the sand dunes to surprise me. We all had champagne on the beach and then went for dinner. It was perfect, once again Dominic pulling out all the romantic stops.
