The DIA's collection is among the top six in the United States, with more than 65,000 works. Among the notable acquisitions for the DIA are Mexican artist Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry fresco cycle, which Rivera considered his most successful work, and Vincent van Gogh's Self-Portrait, the first Van Gogh painting to enter a U.S. museum collection. The DIA is closed on December 31.

Michigan Central

Michigan Central Station, located in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, is a historic train station that first opened in 1913 as the main depot for the Michigan Central Railroad. The grand 18-story building once served thousands of passengers daily before closing in 1988 and standing vacant for decades. In 2018, Ford Motor Company purchased the station and began a six-year restoration to transform it into a hub for innovation and mobility. The newly renovated Michigan Central Station officially reopened on June 6, 2024.
