The Dobson’s

As we arrive to Split Rock Light House campground (where we initially camped at in 2018) it all becomes instantly reminiscent and nostalgic. Tyler leans over and tells me sadly we didn’t get our spot that we had last time and that we wouldn’t be by the water, I reassured him that it was not an issue. We pack up all of our gear and head into the woods. We arrive to our spot and as we walk the path back to our camp site I quickly realize it actually is the spot from our last trip. I turn around, giggle, and say “is this not the spot from last time” and Tyler response with “Yeah it is, I lied”. I was very proud of him messing with me because that is such a thing I would do. I start setting up our campsite but Tyler is very insistent (which is unusual) to recreate a photo that we took years ago. In this photo we are sitting at a bench that over looks the light house. I went and sat down on the bench while my heart beating out of my chest, I knew it was about to happen. Tyler gets the camera set up and walks over to me, my nerves wouldn’t let me turn around. He then asks me to stand up so that he could take a knee. I of course start sobbing, in that moment a flood of memories and emotions consume me. Finally I half way compose myself and then he opens the box to the ring. I am actually speechless and immediately go back to sobbing. All the while Tyler sits there staring at me, smiling from ear to ear. He then says “oh my god I forgot everything I was going to say” and we both laugh. Tyler is shaking and I let him know everything is okay. He goes on to say “Haley Kae Johnson you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”. I respond with “oh my god, oh my god”, I ask him to stand up, and Tyler says “I think you need to say something first”. I excitedly say “yes”.
