Our story begins in January 2018, in Royal Oak, Michigan. After a long night and a rough morning, my friends were preparing to head back to Ann Arbor. By chance, John had ordered five different onesies for a Onesie Bar Crawl that afternoon. While John originally planned to return the extras, I saw it as fate—there were just enough for everyone. With a little persuasion, I convinced my friends to stay and join the crawl. At some point, both my group and Jess' group ended up at Fifth Ave. For those who aren't familar, Fifth Ave is a two-story bar popular for late-night dancing and a crowd of young 20-somethings—especially at 2 a.m. But we were there at 2 p.m. Our two groups first crossed paths when Stephanie swiped our party glasses, which was a perfect excuse for me to make a move. The conversation was stimulating and after a few (okay, many) drinks, I asked for Jess' number. However, the texts dropped off after that night when she thought she had gone too far with her lie about living in Rochester with her "roommates". A week or so later, I thought I'd try just one more time to reconnect, so I sent her a Snapchat... of Midas (my Goldendoodle), and unsurprisingly, my plan worked. Our conversation immediately picked back up and Jess finally admitted that her roommates were indeed her parents. Those first few months were filled with Ann Arbor & Detroit dates, long talks on the phone, and a free dog sitter when I went away and the rest is history! To this day Jess remains in my phone as "Jessie Oneise" (and yes, she spelled it wrong).
