Kim and Kyle's loves story is a little different depending on who you ask. Kyle and a friend went to Bully's Sports Bar for beers and college football. They sat at the bar where Kim was finishing her Saturday shift. At the time, Bully's had giveaways to win free Nevada football tickets. That day's winner never showed up to claim them. Kim offered the tickets to the two guys. Of course they were stoked to now have plans. Now....Kyle says Kim just gave him her number. Kim says Kyle asked for her number and proposed they meet up that night at the game. Not sure they'll ever figure out which is true but its made for a running joke. After all of that, Kim blew them off and never showed to the game. Fast forward almost two months, the two still hadn't met up despite Kyle trying multiple times. Kim now had the reputation of a flake, making plans but canceling last minute. She was fresh off a breakup and couldn't decide if dating is what she wanted...but WOW those butterflies every time he came to the bar! Meanwhile, Kyle knew what he wanted. He sent yet another text but this time told her it was his last time trying. Kim went to work that night and explained the predicament to her co-worker, Hannah. "This guy won't leave me alone", she said. Knowing Reno is small, Hannah asked his name. Hannah put her hands on Kim's shoulders, slightly shaking her, practically demanding, "You HAVE to go out with him. He's amazing. His family is amazing. DO IT." While it was Kyle who eventually won over Kim's heart, the couple definitely have to give Hannah a huge shout out for helping make it happen.
The first date...dinner at his house with his family. Well, that escalated quickly. Definitely a bold move by Kyle but that shows how incredibly family oriented he is and how welcoming his family was and always has been. Kyle lived with his brother, sister-in-law, and his niece. The vibe? Sweatpants and tacos. The guys made dinner. The girls played with Playdoh. The food was amazing! The highlight of the evening was Kyle and Ryan's jalapeƱo eating competition. After dinner everyone watched 22 Jump Street. Things went so well that date two was the very next night. This time, drinks at the not-so-classy dive bar, Hot Rod. After they closed down the bar, the night ended with hours of listening to music in the car and their first kiss. Yes, he asked first!! Over the next few years, the couple finished their undergrads, moved in together, and focused on their goals. Kyle went to EMT school and then paramedic school. He landed his dream job working for Central Lyon County Fire Department as a Paramedic/Firefighter. Kim started her career in social services working as a Program Director for adults with disabilities. In 2019, they were so grateful to have the opportunity to buy their first home in Sparks. They have an incredibly sassy pit mix, Mya. They've taken unforgettable vacations together from spontaneous camping trips to Yosemite to a Cowboys/Patriots game in Boston (thank you forever, Matt and Alex). --We would like to thank our friends and family for the years of support, love, and words of encouragement. No doubt, we wouldn't be where we are without each of you. Thank you for being a piece in our love story puzzle.
When Kyle was in paramedic school, the couple lived primarily on a single person income. Vacations and time off consisted of day trips to Boca Reservoir. They kept it simple...a cooler, speaker, lawn chairs and hopefully a secluded spot so Mya could run. Boca represented peace during such a stressful time. This year, Kyle planned a trip to Boca. But this time, had a different motive. He woke up early, took care of packing the car. As always, it took forever to find a secluded spot for Mya. Kim had a mild meltdown when she thought Kyle was going to roll the car. They set up, had drinks...just another great day at the lake! They met a lovely couple who shared the beach for a short time. When they had the beach to themselves again, Kyle snuck the ring from the car. Kim went to the bathroom and when she came back she said, "This has been a perfect day." Kyle's response? "I'm about to make it better." (WHAT.A.LINE!!) He grabbed her right hand (yes, right hand). Kyle's speech was short and sweet but don't ask Kim. She was in such shock she couldn't tell you a word he said. Kyle definitely played it cool. She never saw it coming. After, they celebrated with a few pictures, dancing by the water, and sushi for dinner. It was perfect! Kim later found out that Kyle called her mom that morning to ask for her blessing. Being somewhat old school, that was something Kim always hoped he would do. There are no words that describe how much that one phone call meant to Kim.
