Costs

My goal is to make this trip as affordable and equitable as possible. I've got a few ideas, so please scroll down to the bottom of this page for those. Or answer the email I sent you on 3/16 ;) Things that we will be spending money on as a group: - Lodging (FREE!) - Rental cars (We may have a spare family car or two to use) - Group activities that involve all of us (dinner out, groceries, entrance fees to parks etc.) - Flights for those who need financial assistance (those of you who have companion fares, offer that to another guest!) The internet tells me the average "budget" traveler needs $110 per day to vacation in Anchorage. But I think with the money we're saving with free lodging and cooking at home, it's more like $50-80. Flights average anywhere from $200-$400 roundtrip. Here are some ideas: - Group fund (see idea below) - Splitwise (see idea below) - Other ideas?
Idea: Splitwise
Splitwise is a website/app that helps people split bills really easily. Everyone contributes, records it, and you can choose to "settle up" when you want to make it even. The app will calculate for you how much you owe people, and match it to how muc you've already contributed, so there's less venmo back-and-forth nonsense. If pooling money into a fund up-front is too much to ask, or doesn't seem like a good idea, we can each pay for group things as we go, and keep track here. Did you pay for gas for the rental car today? Did you pay for dinner? Did you pay for the Airbnb? You can record it in splitwise. And if you wanted to pay for something and treat it as a gift, then don't record it. Simple. A possible downside is I think it splits everything evenly, so the sliding fee thing doesn't really happen here. But if this seems like the better option, we can work around that.
Idea: Group Venmo Flat Rate
A sliding scale could look something like this... *note, this would just be for the three days. beyond that, talk to me directly. we'll work something out case-by-case* If we don't get an Airbnb: Come-to-Mamma status: $110 per day (~$330 total) | Enough to cover me and and help someone out: $80 per day (~$240 total) | Enough for just me: $50 per day (~$150 total) | Enough if someone can help me out: $20 per day (~$60 total)
For all the days along the way
