How They Met

September 2010

It was their very first semester of college as freshman at Wingate University, now over 7 years ago. Victoria went on a pre-orientation trip the week before classes began where she met many new friends. One of these new friends happened to be Dillon's cousin who introduced him to the group of girlfriends that quickly formed within the first few weeks of school. While they had been formally introduced, both Dillon and Victoria were already in relationships with different people and their paths of friends never seemed to cross after that. Months went by, and as it turned out it was just the right amount of time before they ran into one another again. Classes were back in session after Christmas for the Spring Semester and many of college students had gone out one night to the local bar/college hangout spot after the first week back at school. Victoria had been out to this place many times with friends, but had never seen Dillon there until that night. She was feeling bold and walked right up to him and said, "Dillon Parker, I didn't know you had fun!" He laughed and they talked about their Christmas break, oddly as if they had been close friends the entire time. She dared him to step out onto the dance floor with her, where they spent the rest of the night dancing like fools until closing time.

First Date

February 14, 2011

It was a little over a month after they had danced the night away. While they had been texting and hanging out between classes, they were afraid to rush things too fast and hadn't gone out on an official date. One night, Dillon went out on a limb and asked her to go to dinner with him on the following Monday. While she had forgotten that was Valentine's day, he had not. Dillon showed up Monday night with a gift for her with an adorable handwritten card. They went out to a laughter filled dinner at Olive Garden, and returned to the dorm to drink cheap wine and watch chick flicks. In the days following, they realized that each day together was more fun and memorable than the last and making the relationship official wouldn't change that. So, on February 25, 2011, they both officially started dating their best friend.

The Proposal

October 10, 2015

Dillon and Victoria were on their annual beach vacation with her parents and her younger brother, David, at Myrtle Beach, SC in a beachfront hotel/condo. She had come in early from lounging on the beach to lay down and nurse a horrible migraine. Her mother woke her up around 3pm and convinced her to come out and get something to eat. As Victoria came out to the kitchen, her brother comes yelling from the balcony that there is a shark on the beach!! She followed him running out onto the balcony to investigate and can’t find the "alleged shark" along the water line, when She hears Dillon's voice behind her say, "Victoria". She turned around to see Dillon on one knee with and the box open with a ring in his hand. Victoria paused to wait for her brain to catch up and after she realized that yes, this is really happening, She says yes!! They cry as she hugs/tackles him and as she was in his arms, she noticed out through the light rainfall that there was no shark on the beach, but the words “MARRY ME” written in huge letters out in the sand. The sudden afternoon rain had cleared the beach and made a perfect canvas for Dillon (with David's help) to carve out the letters while Victoria napped. So, Dillon and Victoria ran out into the rain and she carved, “YES” right above his writing. Just as she finished the last curve in the “S”, they turned around to loud cheers and clapping as an audience had accumulated out on the other hotel balconies. Best beach trip, ever.
