Diego and Nadia met in physics class at the University of Miami, but technically their story really started when Diego asked Nadia for her phone number so they could study for anatomy lab and physics together. What began as “studying” quickly became finding every possible excuse to spend more time together. Nadia technically planned the first date when she asked Diego to meet up to help her with physics homework. Somewhere between solving physics problems and spending time together, they ended up making a CVS run to pick up cold medicine for Diego. In a perfect preview of their future relationship, Diego then got Nadia sick a week later and had to return the favor by taking care of her. The more they got to know each other, the crazier it seemed that they had never met before. They grew up only twenty minutes apart in New Jersey, yet somehow had to move all the way to Miami to finally find each other. From the very beginning, there was never much uncertainty — they both knew almost instantly they had found someone truly special, someone who completely exceeded every expectation they had for a future partner. Soon, study sessions turned into Chipotle dates and Diego, being the gentleman that he is, offered to give Nadia rides to Sunday Mass. Before long, going to church together became one of the foundations of their relationship. Years later, they now get to be married in that very same church — a full-circle moment neither of them could have imagined back in their physics class days. Over the last four and a half years, Diego and Nadia have grown up side by side through every season of life. They flew back and forth together to visit family in New Jersey, graduated side by side from UM, and somehow survived three more years of graduate school together. While most couples had dinner dates, theirs often involved anatomy flashcards and long study nights. Today, Nadia is officially a Doctor of Occupational Therapy, and Diego is a Doctor of Physical Therapy. From physics class to future husband and wife, everyone around them could tell from the very beginning that this was something special.
