We met in 2009 while working for the University of Florida Rec Sports department. Ryan had his coolest job to date driving our school's wakeboarding boat and I was a group fitness instructor. We attended an all-staff training with hundreds of student employees and were assigned to the same small group. When it was my turn to ask a question, I asked Ryan if he could take me wakeboarding. Two coasts, a dozen years, and a pandemic later, here we are, ready to be married!
Ryan says he didn't plan to wait until the last night of our Fiji trip to propose, but that I unintentionally sabotaged his first attempt. It was the second to last night of our trip and we were heading to dinner. As we prepared to leave our room, our new friends from New Zealand walked by. It was their last night in Fiji, so I invited them to join us, not knowing Ryan had reserved a private waterfront table. Ryan said, "Sure!", to our friends joining us and sorted out the reservations when we got to the restaurant. Later, I found out he was walking around with my ring in his pocket all night! Finally, the next night when we were walking along the beach at sunset, Ryan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
