How We Met

February 24, 2019

In true millennial fashion, we each downloaded the ‘dating app designed to be deleted’. Turns out their slogan is pretty accurate. We were both skeptical of the method so it took some convincing from close friends on both sides. It wasn’t long before we connected on the app. On that Sunday morning his liked picture lead to my hello message, which turned into hours of back and forth messaging, that later became a phone call, and then- he asked what was on both of our minds … “Are you hungry?” Since conversation was great throughout the day we agreed to meet in person for a bite to eat at Miller Ale House of Coral Springs. When else have I ever gotten fully ready within 35 minutes? Never! For hours we sat at the bar and talked like friends that had known each other for years. At some point during our walk to our cars we decided the night shouldn’t end yet and came up with the idea to drive to the beach. Atlantic Boulevard eastbound until we got to the sand and there, with the stars and the waves as witnesses, we shared our first kiss. The next day he swept me away with a hand delivered coffee at my job on a more upbeat than usual Monday morning. To this day we’re amazed at how perfectly out of character but so at home we were on that Sunday. And, to this day he makes sure I get my morning coffee everyday.

The Proposal

August 13, 2021

I knew early on in our relationship that Diana was the one for me. I wanted our proposal to be memorable and special. I juggled a few ideas, but none of them seemed to be the “one”. In early 2021 we planned a week trip to Hawaii for August 2021. What is more romantic than proposing in Hawaii, right? Now, the hardest part was trying to keep Diana from suspecting that it would happen. We had a few months before our trip, and I took my time looking for the perfect ring. I made sure to not keep the ring in the house and I had Connie bring it in her bag. Once we arrived in Hawaii, I looked for the best areas where we could set up a nice memorable moment. I had a feeling she thought it could be coming, so I waited to the day before we left to keep it spontaneous. There was a spot on the beach at the hotel we were staying at that was semi-private. On the morning of August 13, 2021, I had Diego, Connie, Claudia, Rachel, and Sophia prepare the area with Hawaiian leis, music, and champagne. I told Diana, dress nice so we can go for a walk. I think she was a little confused at that point, because who dresses nice to go for a walk? I got the “all clear” that the area was ready. We begin walking down and the setting was absolutely perfect, champagne with two glasses in the middle of Hawaiian leis in the shape of a heart. I picked up the ring, got down on one knee and asked Diana, will you marry me. Both of us were full of emotion, and at 21° 16.6364' N, 157° 49.8818' W she said YES!!
