Our all-time favourite spot (and Wedding location). The tides here are epic, full sand beach at lowtide with marine life explorations available at the rocks. Watch out for squirting gooey ducks at the low tide mark. Water is often warmer as it comes in after the tide. Be sure to try out the raft that will be floating in the bay.
For the adventures with a good sense of balance. Walk across Piggott Bay to the south side and follow the rocks along the coast and around the corner to an all-pebble beach. The water gets deep fast here, so it’s a good swim spot if you don’t mind the cold!
Around the corner from Piggott Bay. More rocks and some mud but also a fabulous low tide beach.
Park in the St. John Point parking lot and follow the trail from there directly to the water. Lovely bay with good swimming on a warm day.
This is where the boats hang out. Great beach for rock skipping and views to Curlew Island.
Home Beach to the Mayne Inn Resort. Sandy Beach, good swimming. Typically one of the busier beaches on-island.
A local favourite. This long-sided bay beach requires a short walk down from the road on a dirt path but you will be rewarded with clear water and a large beach. Often there is a raft in the water to swim out to.
Beach by the townsite. At lowtide this is a fun beach to wander to either side and under the dock. Be sure to check out the overhanging house that invites high tide waters in with regularity!
Our ferry terminal. Good beach to visit while waiting for the ferry. Much better than sitting in the car.
Home to a playground, disc golf course and the Japanese Gardens.
More details below.
26 hectare park on the waterfront. SJP is a great place to enjoy the coast or take a walk. There are easy hiking paths to two beaches, as well as a more challenging trail along rocky bluffs, making it accessible for many visitors. Access: at the end of Beechwood Drive, follow the unpaved road to the right and into the parking lot.
87 acre Conservancy area. Walk-in only. Option for interior mostly flat path or coastal trails along both coasts for the adventurous. Please comply with the new signage. Access to the point is no longer available. Access: Drive to the end of Edith Point Road and park on the road side, walk up the driveway straight-on from the turn about. Following the driveway will eventually lead you to the middle trail or you can access the north side outside trail by following the deer path trails to the left off the driveway about 75 m from the road.
The high point on the island has multiple trails and adventures to be found. Access: Trails can be found at Kim Road off Felix Jack Road or at Montrose Road off Fernhill.
This point is adjacent to Bennett Bay and Campbell Bay. It is known by those who know as Wedding Point because this is where Cory and Nicole got married 25 years ago. Access: This short trail can be accessed from the northeast end of Bennett Bay beach, or from the parking lot off Wilkes Road or Isabella Lane.
The home of the Iconic white and red Westcoast Lighthouse. (You may have glimpsed this from the ferry as you were entering Active Pass.) Great views back to the Lower Mainland and often a good spot to glimpse some marine life at play in the waves. Access: Follow Georgina Point Road to the end.
A unique beach which is accessible during low tide. A good place to wander the shoreline on the rock outcroppings and check out the rock in the water for seal sightings. Access: Off Bayview Road you will find a small parking lot at a rocky beach entry.
In honour the Japanese people who had settled and worked on the island between 1900 and 1942 before being interred in the Kootenays, this beautiful garden has been lovingly tended by the volunteers of Mayne Island since 2002. Twenty-four years later it a beautiful spot to wander and enjoy the seasonal show. Access: Follow the trail from the Dinner Bay parking lot through the trees to the gated garden.
