We met in the typical 2020's fashion, on a dating app. We talked for about a week until we set up a time to meet. We started talking about going on a first date and he mentioned he lived in Denver, I lived in South Dakota and realized I forgot to change my location back after visiting a friend. We still decided to meet, it would just have to be a planned out thing. Now this was in 2022 so Covid was still going around but not as much of a worry. As luck would have it I ended up with Covid so I was not able to meet him the weekend we planned on. We did end up meeting the next weekend though after changing plans. Our first date was brunch at D Bar in uptown Denver and then ice skating. Once I went back home we decided neither of us wanted to do a long distance relationship so I moved to Denver with my dog at the end of February. Here is to the next chapter of our lives together.
It started back during Christmas 2023. Darian and I went up to my parents house for a family Christmas. He told my parents that he was planning to propose in the spring. He also told his family during this time as well. Fast forward to March we went to New Orleans to see my Aunt who had my great grandmothers ring. We had a ton of fun but that isn't really part of this story. When we got home we got the ring all sorted out with the correct size and cleaned as well. Then it got to live in our lockbox for however long until he proposed. Darian is usually very busy in April so he decided why not just add an engagement into the mix. He had a weekend free and there was a ballet show happening as well that I had wanted to go to so he decided it was perfect. The original plan was to propose after dinner but before the ballet. The weather had other plans though with a fun little spring snow. Before we went to dinner he decided to propose in our kitchen, just the two of us, and a massive bouquet of roses, to make it that much more special for just us. Then we went to dinner and got to celebrate our next chapter before going to the ballet.
Devon is such a softy when it comes to things that are passed down from family members. Devon's great grandmother, Glenn, passed when she was about to be 10 but she had a large impact on her life. She taught her the first few notes on the piano and encouraged her to take piano lessons. She didn't take them for too long though because dance was more important in her life at that time. As for the story of the ring, it was the only ring she had as an engagement and wedding ring set. It was give to Glenn by her husband Gene. Gene and Glenn were married in 1959 in Broadus, MT at the church Devon was baptized in and grew up attending for holiday services. Gene and Glenn went on a honeymoon to Yellowstone National Park and while they were there that is when a huge earthquake happened which caused them to evacuate. None of the family back in Broadus knew they went and had no idea they were is such chaos.
