Priyanka and Deven’s journey began on a Wednesday night in 2019, under the stars of Austin, Texas. Both students at the University of Texas, their paths crossed on Speedway at 10 PM. Deven had just finished a physics lab, while Priyanka was on her way to dinner with friends. A mutual friend, Joshua Mathew, invited Deven to join them, setting the stage for a memorable encounter. As they sat down together, Priyanka wasted no time in teasing Deven, a playful attitude that would become her signature response to guys she was interested in. However, their conversation was brief and they parted ways that night thinking it would be their last meeting. A year later, fate intervened. Priyanka reached out to Deven to discuss their shared experiences as Gujarati Christians. Their conversation turned to discussions of what a hypothetical Christian Gujarati wedding would look like, a topic they could not have anticipated would one day become their reality. Once again, they parted ways, unaware of the paths that lay ahead. In March 2021, they both received surprising news from their friend Ben Eappen: they had matched to the same medical school in San Antonio. Fast forward to August 2021. Priyanka reached out, asking to join Deven in searching for churches in San Antonio. This simple request opened the door to a friendship that would flourish over the next year. A few weeks later, when Deven decided to forgo lectures in favor of studying at the library, Priyanka asked to join him. Soon, their study group expanded to include Sam Oshoba. Together, they tackled the challenges of medical school, forming a bond that went beyond academics. As they navigated their first year, Priyanka found herself developing feelings for Deven. He was unaware of this as she always referred to him as “buddy” and “friend”. However, their friendship took a turn in the fall of 2022. After a series of mini-fights, they faced a heated argument in October. Realizing he was in the wrong, Deven sent an apologetic text, leading to a heartfelt conversation. Both came to the realization that their friendship mattered deeply. With God’s guidance, they found forgiveness and understanding. Deven prayed for clarity, asking Jesus to help him appreciate Priyanka as a friend. Little did he know, his prayer would be answered in ways he could never imagine. In 2023, their bond deepened as feelings began to bloom between them. While on a ski trip in Italy with his best friend Miguel, Deven found himself awake at 3 AM, discussing his growing feelings for Priyanka. However, he was confident the feelings were not mutual. He and Miguel and they decided the best course of action was to just ask Priyanka on a date so that he could get rejected and move forward. On January 7th, Deven crafted an excuse to drop off food at Priyanka’s apartment. Luis, his roommate and friend, kept him company as they went to Fuego Taco. Deven then walked up to Priyanka's apartment, and after a brief catch-up, he took a leap of faith. Just before leaving, he turned to Priyanka and shared that he felt a spark between them, wanting to explore whether they could "be something". He told her how he admired her beauty and her strong relationship with God, asking her out to dinner that Saturday. That Saturday, they went to "Best Quality Daughter" for dinner. Three weeks later, he officially asked her to be his girlfriend. Eight months later, they were officially engaged under Spanish Moss at Brackenridge Park in downtown San Antonio. And so, Priyanka and Deven’s love story continues, woven together by Christ, friendship, and the promise of a beautiful future.
