Long before meeting Justin, Destiny worked as a Christian missionary overseas. Based in the German city of Nuremberg for about two years, she regularly led teams to the Middle East and North Africa for evangelism trips. When COVID lockdowns closed much of Europe in 2020, she was ultimately forced to return home to the United States. In January of 2021 Destiny moved to Washington, DC to help staff David’s Tent - a ministry of 24/7 worship and prayer on the National Mall. Originally she intended to stay for just a few weeks but, after much prayer, she discerned God saying she could "put down roots" in DC. In faith, she continued full-time at David's Tent, regularly leading public worship. At the time, Justin had already lived and worked in DC for a number of years. A post-graduate summer program had brought him to the city years earlier and he had found work in international relations. In spring of 2021, Justin's roommate invited him to a weekly Friday night worship gathering at David’s Tent, which Destiny also happened to attend. Regular attendees often went out for food after, and Destiny and Justin were introduced. They got along! Over the summer they spent time together in friend groups over late night Wawa trips and sightseeing walks along the National Mall. From the very beginning, their friendship was centered around God. In August 2021, while on a group camping trip in the Shenandoah Mountains, the two snuck away and laid a blanket in an open field to watch the Perseid meteor shower. Under a sky of shooting stars, Justin asked to pursue Destiny in dating. She kindly obliged. Their season of dating was a deliberate time of thoughtfully getting to know one another for the purpose of marriage. They spent time biking, hiking, reading books, playing ultimate frisbee, playing music at David’s Tent, spending lazy afternoons on the National Mall, and simply enjoying one another's company. Over time, Justin became increasingly attracted to Destiny's vivacity, joy, and Godly character. Destiny likewise grew in appreciation of Justin's thoughtfulness, generosity, gentleness, and heart after God. In late summer of 2023, Justin secretly flew to Destiny’s home in Florida to talk with her parents about proposing marriage. They graciously gave their blessing. With the help of friends, Destiny and Justin were engaged in October 2023 on the National Mall, near where they first met and spent the early days of their relationship together.
