We're Getting Married!

We first met each other celebrating our mutual friend, Sophie, at her birthday party on October 18th 2014 in Anaheim, California. Dhrumil was working at Solar City with Sophie and I was working 3 hours away in El Centro. My favorite memory of the first time we met was how much Dhrumil made me smile and laugh and how social he was with everyone. As the months passed, we saw each other with mutual friends and Sophie kept talking up Dhrumil and would tell me how great of a guy he is. Finally, one rainy night in February of 2015, everything changed. We were going out with friends in Newport Beach and we were out by the patio when the roof collapsed from the rain. Dhrumil (heroically) moved me out of the way of the water and roof debris and by his account "saved my life" (it was not that dramatic at all- I promise you). We spent the whole night talking and eventually exchanged phone numbers, even though I dropped his phone twice that night. We started texting each other the next day and, as my friends will tell you, I couldn't stop smiling. We started seeing each other even though we were living 3 hours apart. To be honest, I didn't have a lot of faith that this would work out but Dhrumil impressed and surprised me. He put in a lot of effort early on and would drive to visit me, take me to dinners, bring small gifts and treats for my dogs; he was understanding, kind and patient. I got to see how great of a guy he really is and how right Sophie had been. We both wanted our relationship to continue even though we had started out living far away. Eventually, Dhrumil got a manager position in San Diego and shortly after I was relocated back to San Diego for work and we were finally in the same city. If you were to tell me the night I met Dhrumil that we would end up together I wouldn't have believed you, but now I can't see it any other way.

The proposal was in motion for months. I have always felt that the proposal is a stage to show my love toward my future wife. Lindsey has brought so much love and happiness into my life, I hoped to show even a sliver of that through the proposal. The idea of a Venice as the backdrop had been in my head after visiting the city during college. The plan started falling in place when I was given the opportunity to travel to London for work over her birthday week. Being that I was traveling during her birthday, I was able to disguise the trip by getting her flight tickets to London as her present. Lindsey landed and upon her arriving, I surprised her with tickets to Venice that left the next day. Venice was beautiful as always and we got most of that day to explore the city and then the entire next day as well. The night before was the worst/best night of my life. I had told Lindsey that I had this amazing fancy breakfast spot in mind that I wanted to take her to but it was a 30 minute walk from where we were so we had to get up early. We went to bed early, but that did nothing for me. I have never been so nervous in my life. I was not nervous about her answer, but because I wanted everything to go perfectly. I saw the clock every 30 minutes that night, I must have seen every water taxi that passed our window, and I must have counted every star in the sky, waiting for morning to arrive. It finally did but my nerves had doubled. We got dressed up and walked to the “restaurant” I wanted to take her to. Upon getting there, I told her let’s take a picture and as we took it, I said, “I’m glad we took this photo because this will be a memory you'll never forget.” I got down on one knee and popped the question. I would not have changed anything about this moment and the beautiful girl who accompanied me on it.
