January 14th, 2013. A not horrendously cold winter day that allowed these Minnesotans to leave their warm homes and head out that Saturday night. Meghan went out with friends from graduate school to celebrate Kasi's 30th! After dinner, the ladies headed to Big Dog in North Mankato. As the evening progressed, Derek walked in with Sarah's now husband Steve. It was not quite love at first sight, but we did click, and laughed the evening away. Thankfully, Sarah noticed this, and proceeded to talk up both of us to the other. Fate (or Sarah) brought us together again. On July 3rd, 2013, Sarah invited Meghan up for Fourth of July Festivities and took her to Jenna's home for a good old fashioned house party. Derek's dance moves swayed Meghan's distaste of a Bennie-Johnnie relationship, and the rest is history!
All good marriages start with compromise, right? If you have not noticed yet, we are married! Meghan wanted a small intimate ceremony, and Derek a large party, and thus you have our unique and unconventional wedding schedule. Ceremony, honeymoon, reception! On October 7th 2017, we were married at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis with our parents and siblings in attendance. After a rainy week, the sun peeked out for us to have a beautiful ceremony in the park. From there we had a lovely dinner at Nicollet Island Inn overlooking the Mississippi River. We ended our evening at home with more friends and family for a bonfire! It was a relaxed day and lots of love and fun was had. Now comes the compromise part. Derek wants a party! Our love of being on the water in Minnesota's summers had us fall in love with the Majestic Star boat in Stillwater. As we are both social people with big families, this seemed the perfect place for all of us to celebrate! We hope that June 23rd, 2018, can be just as relaxed, fun, and full of love as October 7th.
