Question

Is my passport valid?

Answer

Ensure your passport remains valid, with an expiration date extending at least 6 months after your intended departure to Europe; otherwise, you may be denied entry. Tourists arriving from non-EU countries, notably the United States, do not require a tourist visa for stays in Greece under 90 days. However, other tourists must obtain a tourist visa, even for shorter visits. Entry visas, typically valid for 90 days, can be granted for a maximum duration of six months.

Question

is there a registry?

Answer

No! There is no registry.

Question

Should I bring euros?

Answer

Yes! Even though most restaurants and stores accept credit card, having euros is always a good idea just in case.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Both the welcome party and wedding will be outdoors. August weather tends to be hot and dry. We suggest light summer wear for the welcome dinner (think of what you might wear to a summer dinner party near the beach) and summer formal for our wedding, but comfortable enough to dance all night long! Gentlemen: Ties are optional Ladies: The wedding venue has grass so maybe rethink the stilettos!

Question

What is a Greek ceremony like?

Answer

A traditional Greek wedding ceremony follows the ceremonies and rituals of the Greek Orthodox Church. There are two golden crowns, or “stefana,” connected by a single strand of ribbon, which symbolizes the union of two people becoming one in marriage. At the heart of the ceremony, the Koumbaro places the wedding crowns over the bride’s and groom’s heads after passing them over the couple’s heads three times to symbolize unity, as well as the holy trinity. After sipping wine from the same cup, the bride and groom are led around the altar table three times by the Koumbaro as a Greek prayer is recited by the priest. Afterwards, in some more traditional villages, the priest offers the newly-wed couple honey-dipped almonds. However, in modern times, it is much more common to end a ceremony with the couple kissing and guests throwing rice as the newlyweds leave the church.

Question

What is a Koumbaro/ Koumbara?

Answer

The Greek Orthodox Church requires that the couple (who must both be Orthodox) appoint Orthodox Christian wedding sponsors in good standing with the Church. They are to be guides for the couple throughout their marriage and will likely be future godparents of the couple's children. The Koumbaro is the male sponsor of the union and is one of the best men. The female is called the Koumbara and will be the maid or matron of honor.

Question

Will There be greek dancing and if so, how do i greek dance?

Answer

Of course there will be Greek dancing! We encourage all of our guests to participate in Greek dancing even if you don't know how (but please do not feel obligated)! The dances are comprised of a few different steps repeated over again in a circle around the venue. Greek music is upbeat and welcomes everyone! At more traditional weddings, a Greek band will play songs and the group dances their way around the reception space. Our reception will be a mixture of styles and generations paying homage to our Greek roots and traditions while also celebrating in a modern way. In smaller Greek villages, there is an old tradition of pinning money to the bride’s dress at the reception during a special dance. In America, this tradition is more of a “showering” of a gift. When the couple dances near, the guests will toss a whole wad of bills at them. It's optional for guests to participate, so do not feel obligated to join in! The money symbolizes helping the couple get established. Here is a tutorial of the classic Kalamatiano Greek dance! https://youtu.be/Yq1kxg1Jii0?si=fCti73HXRXvxXGiI
