Officiant and Brother of the Bride
You'll never meet a team more opposite and identical than this pair of siblings. Don't let the red beard fool you, with matching mannerisms and a love language of arguing, there's no doubt these two are related. From boogie boarding in Hawaii, to getting lost in the slopes of Lake Tahoe, Alex and Alicia's boundless energy made for an exciting youth and perhaps a few trips to the emergency room. But hey, maybe that's where their journey to medical school began. Alicia cannot think of a more loyal, fun loving role model than her older brother to celebrate the union of her and Derek.
Best Man
Established in 1990, this dynamic brother duo is a force to be reckoned. It's not always often that you're blessed with a perfect younger brother such as Derek...but when you are, you tease them endlessly for their love of nature and let them win a few games of basketball just to keep them playing. But, the joke's on Justin now that the two have embarked on countless backpacking trips spanning from Glacier National Park to Joshua Tree, the Grand Tetons and everywhere in between. They owe it to their parents for introducing them to the outdoors - be it their family Tahoe Cabin or multiple cross country driving trips, they've explored the mountains majesty. 12 year old Justin sums these annual trips perfectly - “When you’ve seen one tree, you’ve seen them all.” Derek could not have asked for a better sparring buddie, older brother and role model to walk the earth with.
Maid of Honor
The original D&A combination, Dallas and Alicia met competing for rival gyms in the Bay Area at 11 years old. As luck would have it, they ended up as roommates Freshman year on the Cal Gymnastics team in 2010 and continued to live together for the following 4 years - Dallas teaching Alicia how to do laundry/dishes and Alicia supplying the pair with endless entertainment and a lifetime supply of Chocolate Chex cereal. Amoung many best friend attributes, Dallas' best quality is speaking her mind. Rumor has it that when Alicia wondered if Derek was "THE one," Dallas quipped, "Good luck finding someone else, you're way too high maintenance." Now that's love. Bonus fact: Dallas and CJ went to high school in San Jose together - Go Raiders.
Groomsman
In 2007, Derek was rudely awakened to the tune of a new discus throwing hot shot at rival High School, Silver Creek. The stage was set for years of an unmatched rivalry of tights, grimacing faces and viking yells. After Derek completed a successful stint in Junior College, CJ advocated for him to join the Throws squad at UC Berkeley and is a big reason Derek chose Cal to complete his studies. Between CJ's watermelon knees and Derek's back brace, it's unclear if the two spent more time in the training room or at Steve's Korean BBQ. The two brothers were inseparable drinking...I mean training partners and shared countless adventures together as roommates, competitors and best friends.
Bridesmaid
All great relationships start in the training room. One fateful day in 2011, Alicia noticed a limping track athlete working on what she now knows now as "eccentric strengthening exercises." A budding gait analyst and extrovert Alicia asked, "Did you tear your achilles? I tore mine last year!" for which Sunny replied, "YES, it's so hard to walk!" And, the rest is history. From matching scars to matching pants the two share a love of all things outdoors, alternative milk products and small town coffee shops. Weather forecast for the wedding? Sunny, with a chance of Alicia.
Groomsman
It’s not often you have a best friend that routinely visits Africa or casually lives in Australia for several months, but for Andrew…this is a day in the life. It wasn’t until 2013 that Derek and Andrew (another high school discus prodigy turned Cal decathlete) first discovered their life-long bond. Between their love of nature, near identical taste in music and in depth conversations about life, religion and the pursuit of happiness, Andrew has made a profound impact on Derek. But adventure and philosophy aside, Derek's fondest memories of Andrew are simply listening to Tycho and roots reggae while road tripping in a Prius to their favorite spots in Lake Tahoe and Bend Oregon.
Bridesmaid
The Asturias we never knew we needed but cannot live without. Wife of Alex Asturias (Officiant and Brother of the Bride), Amy checked all the boxes to join the Asturias clan - an "A" name and a love of cats. Although she formally entered our lives in 2016, Amy has been a key member of the yearly Asturias trip to the Trinity Alps for decades and for those who know, Trinity is a lifetime commitment. Alicia and Amy share a love of many things including small four legged animals, hot beverages and the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
Ring Bearer and Nephew to the Groom
As its newest member, Owen brings a whole new level of swag to the White family. This little fireball will be championing the rings and stealing hearts.
