About ten years ago, I was a hairstylist at JCON Salon & Spa. I wasn’t AVEDA-trained at the time, so I began in their Rising Talent program. I had come from a fast-paced salon where I sharpened my skills—especially with men’s cuts—so I hit the ground running. There was one stylist I truly admired: Sandra. She was incredibly talented and always carried herself with such a positive attitude. I learned so much just by watching her. As it turns out, she was also Nicholas’s hairdresser. When Sandra and her husband decided to move on to the next chapter of their lives, she passed her men’s clients on to me—including Nick. Back then, we kept client cards for everyone. On the back of Nick’s card, Sandra had written, “Really cute.” She knew I had noticed. Long before he ever sat in my chair, I had seen Nick walk into the salon at least once a week. The very first time I saw him, I turned to my best friend Angie and said, “That’s my husband. Just watch.” And I meant it. The first time he walked through those doors, something just clicked for me. I can’t explain it—I just knew. When he finally came in for his first haircut he was quiet. Not shy, just thoughtful… a little mysterious. Completely different from what I was used to. It made me want to know more about him—and I’m so glad I did. After a few haircuts, we discovered that his childhood best friend was dating my best friend. The world suddenly felt very small. Not long after that, Nick and I began what would become this beautiful journey together—and the rest is history.
