The couple owes their having met to their fathers. Andrea's father, Juan, and Randy's father, Carlos, met in their early twenties on a work project and became instant friends. After the project was completed, life took them in different directions. A few years later, after Juan had moved to the U.S., he ran across Carlos's business card tucked away in an old agenda. He called Carlos and heard the news that Carlos had just recently married Marisela. A few weeks later, the two men and their wives, Sally and Marisela, got together over the Christmas holidays in Tampico in 1986, and a friendship began between the two couples. In 1987, Randy's sister, Sally was born and Juan and Sally became her godparents and in 1988, Andrea came along and Carlos and Marisela became her godparents. Randy followed the next year in 1989. For several years, the two families shared time together over the Christmas holidays until different schedules and life got in the way. Before they knew it, the years had passed and Randy and Andrea did not see each other again until his sister, Sally's wedding to Francisco in December 2017. As fate would have it, or perhaps through a planned or unplanned move, Randy and Andrea ended up seated next to each other at the reception. Andrea sums it up with "We talked, we danced and things took off from there."
