How We Met

It Started as Brothers

We met our freshman year at Miami University on our bid night for Theta Tau (our co-ed engineering fraternity)! All the pledges played this name-learning game where we had to do a dance or pose for each syllable of our name. Ross did the karate kid crane kick pose (“if done right, no can defend”) for his name, which was a pretty memorable move. We were friends (and Theta Tau Brothers) throughout college, both supporting each other through their various leadership positions in the organization. We, along with several members of the wedding party, got very close senior year - often hanging out at “The” house for parties and game nights, going out in Oxford, or studying in Benton. Often, the two of us would go out for a bite to eat after class, or walk home together and just chat about school, the future, and life in general. Senior year, we started hanging out so much that the pledges thought we were dating! We weren’t at the time, but we started referring to each other as "Theta Tau Boyfriend" and "Theta Tau Girlfriend".

How We Fell in Love

A Covid Love Story (as told by Delaney)

Right in the last semester of our senior year, Spring 2020, Covid hit. It was a totally crazy time - classes were cancelled in an instant, and we had to make the tough decision to cancel the Theta Tau formal that was scheduled for that weekend. We were all scrambling to figure out if we’d stay on campus or go home - but luckily, Ross, my roommates/besties (who also knew Ross), Hailey and Emily, and I decided to stay. Oxford during Covid was like a magical little bubble. Ross became the honorary 4th member of “The Beanbag” apartment as he was over basically every single day. The four of us would make meals together, study together, and enjoy the beautiful springtime Miami campus basically all to ourselves. We even all dyed our hair together! We’d watch movies every single night - typically a Marvel movie. My feelings for Ross started to develop quickly. We were already such good friends, and I liked who I was around him. Quickly, I started scheming with Emily and Hailey to get me to spend some time alone with Ross. Hailey and Emily would conveniently be “busy” one night, so Ross and I would have to watch a movie alone (which typically ended up being a Fast & Furious movie, one of Ross’s favorites). Or Hailey and Emily would strategically sit in the chairs such that Ross would have no choice but to sit next to me. (Truly Hailey and Emily, I cannot thank you enough for your support during this time - we might not be here if it wasn't for your help!). Evidently it was working, because when I would drive Ross home at night, he asked if we could drive around for a bit longer so we could spend just a little more time together. Rossi asked me to come with him to visit the University of Michigan campus for the day and even after spending the entire day together, Ross still wanted to drive around Oxford and hang out for a little longer before he dropped me off. When Rossi finally made the decision that he would go to U of M for grad school, I knew that this could work. Cleveland was only about a 3 hour drive, and I knew I'd be back in MI anyway to visit my family. So after talking it over with the girls no less than 30 times, I decided to shoot my shot and tell Ross how I felt... only two weeks before graduation. And it only took 6 whole days for Ross to get back to me! He said had a lot to think about because he really valued our friendship and didn’t want to lose that but ultimately decided to go for it. After watching Fast and Furious 5 on the couch at The Beanbag, Ross kissed me and told me that he wanted to give this a shot - and the rest is history!

What We're Up To

After we graduated from Miami in 2020, Delaney with a degree in Chemical Engineering and Ross with a degree in Electrical Engineering, we did long distance for 3 years. Delaney was a process engineer at a label manufacturing company in Cleveland, and Ross started his PhD in Robotics at the University of Michigan. We moved in together in 2023 when Delaney got a job in Southeast Michigan. Currently we live in Farmington Hills with our polydactyl cat, Thumbs :) Delaney is a process engineer at General Motors working on electrode coating for EV batteries, and Ross is in the final year of his PhD working on developing robotic prosthetic legs for amputees! In our free time we love going to concerts, traveling to see our friends, vacationing in Northern Michigan, spending time with family, watching movies, and going on walks. And bothering (or being bothered by) the cat of course! Delaney likes to crochet, bake, and cook, and Ross likes to read, play video games, and learn about cars.
