Our engagement story

July 18th, 2024

In the summer of 2022, Marshall and Delaney were on vacation in the mountains when they stumbled upon a stunning lake in Kananaskis. It was peaceful, quiet, and absolutely breathtaking, it was like a hidden gem they felt lucky to discover. Since it was the end of their trip, they promised each other that the next time they returned, they would spend a whole day soaking up the beauty, kayaking across the glassy turquoise water, and sharing a picnic surrounded by the mountains. Fast forward to the summer of 2024. They finally returned to that special spot, saving the visit for the very last day of their trip, which had been forecasted to be the nicest day of the week. The trip had already spoiled them with incredible weather, gorgeous hikes, and the all the beauty the mountains had to offer. But when the long-awaited lake day arrived, things took an unexpected turn. The skies were grey, the air smoky, and a cold rain rolled in... by far the worst weather they had experienced all week. Still holding onto hope, they made the drive anyway, determined to stick to their plan. Even with the cold rain and smoky skies, they thought, “Why not?” They braved the weather and launched the kayaks, hoping the skies might clear. But the gloom persisted. Within minutes, Delaney, who had been so excited for this day, was soaked, freezing, and far from living the dream. In true Marshall fashion, he did everything he could to lift her spirits. When laughter didn’t quite warm the day, he reached into his pocket, pulled out a ring, and asked the question that changed everything. Somehow, in the midst of the rain and cold, the world felt brighter. The moment was theirs, perfectly imperfect and forever unforgettable. And just like that, no more than five minutes later, the skies cleared. The rain stopped, the clouds lifted, and warm sunlight poured over them. The lake looked just as magical as it had two years earlier.
