FAQs

Question

When should I book my flights?

Answer

The best time to book flights is typically 9–12 months before the wedding, when prices and availability tend to be at their best. Since the wedding is in March 2027, guests should plan to book their flights between June and September 2026.

Question

When should I arrive in South Africa?

Answer

We recommend arriving at least a few days before the wedding to adjust to the time difference and enjoy some of the beautiful surroundings! We’ll also have optional group activities during the week leading up to the big day for anyone who wants to make a full trip out of it.

Question

Do I need a visa or special documents to travel?

Answer

Most visitors from the U.S. and many other countries do not need a visa for stays under 90 days—just make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.

Question

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

Fly into Cape Town International Airport (CPT) - it’s the closest major airport, about a 50–60 minute drive from Vrede en Lust. We’ll share some transport recommendations soon for those interested in car rentals or private shuttles. You can also fly into Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo) and then take a connecting flight to Cape Town from there, it is about a 2 hour flight.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

We kindly request that you RSVP by September 17th, 2026. As a destination wedding in a popular wine region, early responses are crucial for us to finalize our wedding itinerary and ensure a smooth experience for our guests. With hotels in the area booking quickly during wedding season, your prompt RSVP will help us coordinate accommodations and transportation effectively.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

Please see our travel page for hotel suggestions. We’ve included a few options in Cape Town if you plan to spend a couple of nights there before the wedding. Cape Town is about 1 - 1.5 hours from our venue, so you will need to book separate accommodation closer to Simondium, near Franschhoek, for the wedding events. We’ve added hotel recommendations in that area as well, and we plan to provide transportation to and from the venue for both the welcome party and the wedding day.

Question

Are there any other events that I should know about around the wedding? Like a group itinerary or optional activities?

Answer

Yes! We’re putting together an optional itinerary for the week leading up to the wedding in the Cape Town area. There’s absolutely no pressure to join - we just thought it’d be a great way to explore together. Since many guests haven’t been to South Africa before, we’d love to show you some of our favorite spots - think of it as having free local tour guides!

Question

Do I need any special vaccinations or medications before traveling to South Africa?

Answer

For travelers visiting the Cape Town and Franschhoek area (where the venue is), no special vaccinations or malaria medications are required. It’s considered a low-risk region with excellent medical facilities. We do recommend making sure your routine vaccines (like Tetanus, Hepatitis A, and Typhoid) are up to date, and checking with your doctor or a travel clinic before your trip. If you plan to extend your stay and visit areas further north - like Kruger National Park or Victoria Falls - your doctor may suggest malaria prevention for that part of your travels.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

We love your little ones, but we’ve decided to make this an adults-only celebration so everyone can relax and enjoy the evening. Thank you for understanding!

Question

Will transportation be provided?

Answer

We’ll share details closer to the date, but plan on having transportation options for both the welcome party and the wedding day. For exploring beyond that, rental cars or arranged transfers are easy to book.

Question

What should I know about South African customs or etiquette?

Answer

South Africans are incredibly warm and welcoming! Tipping around 10–15% is standard, and casual friendliness is always appreciated. Oh, and don’t be surprised if you hear “Howzit?” - it’s just a friendly hello!

Question

What's the weather like in March?

Answer

March is late summer in the Western Cape - expect warm, sunny days (mid-70s to low 80s °F / 24–28°C) and cooler evenings. It’s one of the most beautiful times of year in the Cape Winelands!

Question

What's the best way to stay updated?

Answer

We’ll post all updates here on our wedding website, so check back for new details about the itinerary, group activities, and travel suggestions as we get closer to March 2027.
