Despite both Ryan and I growing up in the same city and attending the #1 HBCU, we had never crossed paths. We first connected online. At the time, I was bored from being stuck in the house after an injury. He reached out and while I thought he was cute, I decided to reply to pass the time. We chatted for a while and Ryan started wanting to take me out. With no intentions of actually meeting, I wasn't going for it. Ryan was persistent, though. He kept trying to get to know me and sparked some insightful conversation. Eventually, curiosity got the best of me. I figured one date might be nice, so we went to dinner. It was a good date, but I was being pretty quiet- still trying to feel things out. A week later, Ryan took me to my favorite Mexican restaurant. That's when we really clicked. With first date jitters out of the way, conversation flowed smoothly and we discovered we had similar values and a great chemistry. We made each other laugh and our differences intrigued one another. We realized early on that we had a unique connection. We've been building on that and growing in love since!
We just finished a week of celebrating Kristin’s birthday and went to Atlanta with friends. Topped with date nights, partying and just an overall fun vibe. I was excited to see her be shocked and surprised of the proposal, because it is rare to catch Kristin off guard! I made sure she had no idea it was coming. I told her we had plans for an event at a rooftop lounge. She started asking questions about it, so right before leaving, I dropped to one knee with the sunset skyline behind us. She turned around and immediately had that infectious smile, joy, and laugh. I told her how much I loved her and I couldn’t let another day go by without her knowing that. How much I wanted to build a life with her. I wanted her to know she was my best friend and how I am so blessed to have her in my life. How much I wanted her to be Mrs. Davis. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to pop the question than with her big smile going from ear to ear, screaming, and great friends cheering us on. We shared the news with family and friends and then went out and celebrated. We both couldn’t stop smiling.
