Our Story

*Versión en español a continuación We met on cold weeknight on the patio of our favorite bar. I cant remember any details of the day leading up to that evening but I remember meeting up with my friend Norman at the bar for a drink. I remember him going inside for a beer and just a few minutes later a girl walking in after him. I remember watching her walk by and thinking how pretty she was with her curly brown hair. Some time passed and while Norman and I were talking one of her friends asked to share the heater we were standing by. We said yes and started talking. I cant recall all we talked about but I know we spoke about high school and I got on a stupid tangent about the longest movie ever made. When we finally decided to leave we walked out through the bar and I remember thinking to myself "I think that girl might’ve liked me". I asked Norman and he said he agreed. I turned back and ran through the bar back out to her and her friends on the patio. I do remember them looking at me like I was crazy but I just had to ask the girl with the curly hair and pretty name out again. I did and she said yes, what followed for the next 6 years was incredible. I made a best friend that night and incredible partner and I've never looked back since.

As Declan said we met one of my favorite hang out spots on a cold evening in January of 2016. Despite my deep hatred of sitting outside in any semblance of cold weather this evening my friend, Alyssa, convinced me to sit outside after negotiating with the only 2 people on the patio for spot at a picnic table with the only working space heater. At first we kept to our own end of the table, I was focused on keeping warm and catching up with my friends. Luckily for me Alyssa is not one to shy away from meeting new people and so I was introduced to Norm and his friend Declan. As we got to talking I learned Declan and I had gone to the same high school, we started to reminisce and fell into our own conversation. He was easy to talk to and we talked for hours while I don't remember everything we talked about, we still laugh about the one topic I do remember, which was Declan telling me about the longest movie ever made. At the end of the night when Declan and Norm said their goodbyes and made their way inside, my friends pointed out how cute Declan was and I just thought how sad it was I'd probably never this guy again I looked up to see the guy with a red beany, big handsome smile and Doc Martins running back through the patio doors. I felt butterflies fill my stomach as he walked right up to me, nervously asked if could go on a date and handed me his phone to ask for my number. What followed that evening has been 6 years filled with more of those easy conversations where we fall into our own little world, tons of laughter, adventures to many places in search of great food and experiences with a partner who has been willing to brave the good and tough times life evidently threw our way.

On Friday May 28th, I was getting ready to go out for a birthday dinner. Right before leaving our house Declan called me out to your backyard and led me up the path to a decorated table with a photobook, a bottle of champagne and a big white box. I opened the photobook to a note which read “ These are some of my favorite pictures from the memories we have made together over the years. I cannot wait to fill it with more - Declan”. I moved from page to page to see pictures of us on the trips, date nights and random days we’ve enjoyed over the last 5 years and teared up a little. When I was done Declan pointed to the white box on the table, butterflies built up in my stomach as I opened what turned out to be an empty box (If you know Declan you know he likes to make jokes). I looked up in confusion to see Declan on one knee. The butterflies were back and I started to cry. I could see the nerves in his smile as he said “Will you marry me?” and opened the real ring box. Obviously I said yes and as he slipped the ring on my finger he said I forgot everything I wanted to say because I was nervous. We popped the champagne and started calling our families. We spent the rest of the long weekend celebrating our engagement with family and friends. We cannot wait to celebrate our wedding day with you all in October!!

Fiorella y yo nos conocimos una fría noche entre semana en el patio de nuestro bar favorito. Esa noche me habia encontrado con mi amigo Norman en el bar para tomar una copa. En un momento Norm entro por una cerveza y unos minutos después una chica entró detrás de él. Al verla lo primero que pensé fue lo bonita que era con su cabello castaño rizado. Pasó un tiempo y mientras Norman y yo hablábamos, una de sus amigas se acerco y pidio compartir el calentador que se encontraba cerca a mi mesa. Les dijimos que sí y empezamos a hablar. No recuerdo todo lo que hablamos, pero sé que hablamos sobre la escuela secundaria y me metí en una conversacion sobre la película más larga que existia. Cuando finalmente decidimos irnos y casi al llegar a mi carro pensé dentro de mi: "Creo que le gusté a esa chica". Le pregunté a Norman y el dijo que estaba de acuerdo. Me di la vuelta y corrí hacia adentro y hacia ella y sus amigas en el patio, me miraron como si estuviera loco, pero tenia que pedirle a la chica con el pelo rizado y de nombre bonito que saliera conmigo. Fiorella me aceptó la invitación, lo que vino durante los siguientes 6 años fue increíble. Esa noche conocí a mi mejor amiga, una compañera increíble y desde entonces nunca he mirado hacia atras.

Como dijo Declan, nos conocimos en un lugar en el cual en ese entonces era uno de mis lugares favoritos para pasar el rato. Fue una noche fría en Enero de 2016. A pesar de mi profundo odio por el frío esa noche mi amiga, Alyssa, me convenció de sentarme afuera después de negociar con 2 chicos que se encontraban en el patio al lado de una mesa de picnic con el único calentador. Al principio nos mantuvimos a la distancia, yo estaba concentrada en calentarme y ponerme al día con mis amigas. Afortunadamente, Alyssa no es alguien que se avergüence de conocer gente nueva, así fue como se llegaron a presentar Norm y su amigo Declan. Cuando comenzamos a hablar, me enteré de que Declan y yo habíamos ido a la misma escuela secundaria, comenzamos a recordar y caímos en nuestra propia conversación. Era fácil hablar con él y hablamos por horas, aunque no recuerdo todo lo que hablamos, todavía nos reímos del único tema que sí recuerdo, que era Declan contándome sobre la película más larga que se ha creado. Al final de la noche, cuando Declan y Norm se despidieron mis amigas señalaron lo lindo que era Declan y yo estaba de acuerdo. Pero también pensé que probablemente nunca volvería a ver a este chico. En ese momento fue que miré hacia arriba y vi que Declan con su gorro rojo, sonrisa encantadora y Doc Martins venía corriendo hacia las puertas del patio como loco. En ese momento sentí mariposas en el estómago, Declan se me acercó y muy nerviosa me pregunto si me gustaria salir con él otro dia. Lo que siguió esa noche ha sido 6 años llenos de más de esas conversaciones fáciles en las que caemos en nuestro propio mundo, toneladas de risas, aventuras a lugares en busca de buena comida y experiencias todo con un compañero que ha estado dispuesto a desafiar los tiempos buenos y difíciles que la vida evidentemente nos presenta.

El viernes 28 de Mayo me estaba alistando para ir a una cena de cumpleaños. Justo antes de salir de nuestra casa, Declan me llamó hacia el patio y me guió por el camino hasta una mesa decorada con un álbum de fotos, una botella de champán y una caja blanca. Abrí el fotolibro y encontré una nota que decía: “Estas son algunas de mis fotos favoritas de los recuerdos que hemos hecho juntos a lo largo de los años. No puedo esperar para llenarlo con más”. Pasé de una página a otra viendo las fotos de nuestros viajes, noches de citas y días aleatorios que hemos disfrutado durante los últimos 6 años. Al ver las fotos se me saltaron un poco de lágrimas. Cuando terminé, Declan señaló la caja blanca en la mesa cuando la abrí resultó ser una caja vacía (si conoces a Declan, sabes que le gusta hacer bromas). Levanté la vista confundida y vi a Declan sobre una rodilla. Pude ver los nervios en su sonrisa cuando dijo "¿Quieres casarte conmigo?" y abrió la caja del anillo real. Obviamente dije que sí y mientras deslizaba el anillo en mi dedo Declan me dijo que en el momento se habia olvidado todo lo que me quería decir. Abrimos el champán y comenzamos a llamar a nuestras familias. Pasamos el resto del fin de semana celebrando nuestro compromiso con familiares y amigos. ¡Estamos ansiosos por celebrar el día de nuestra boda con todos ustedes en Octubre!
