Deborah Jewell-Sherman and David Horner met virtually, unexpectedly in 2020 in the COVID-19 pandemic. Before meeting in-person, they came to know each other well through long Skype, Zoom and telephone conversations during the COVID lockdown – Deborah in Richmond, and David in Boston and Maine.   They learned they had many things in common, e.g.: both had a connection to Brown University – David enrolled as a freshman at Brown in 1967 and Deborah was accepted at Pembroke, Brown’s sister school, before enrolling as a freshman at NYU in 1969; both shared a love of 1960s music, travel and the ocean; both followed career paths in education; both taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Education – Deborah becoming HGSE’s first woman professor of practice, David as an adjunct in the 1980s, and both, while taking their work seriously, enjoyed the humor discoverable in life’s daily interplay.    More significantly, both had personal values shaped by faith; both had the experience and privilege of caring for long-term, beloved spouses, Cornelius and Sue, through terminal illnesses – spouses who had been their soul partners through much of their lives’ journeys. Most importantly and consistently in their relationship since 2020, both have found comfort, counsel, pleasure, and happiness in each other’s company. So, five years after their meeting, Deborah and David will formalize and celebrate the commitment they have made to each other in a small, family wedding on May 31, 2025 in Richmond, VA and receptions on June 15, 2025 in Athens, GR and August 16, 2025 in Milton, MA.
