How We Met

The Morning Meeting

Monday morning meetings are the last place you would expect to meet your future spouse, but that's just what happened for us. Justin, who'll do just about anything for a sale, was tasked to run a sales incentive with agencies in his region and seeing the full potential in Debbie's shop, or just another excuse to spend time in her office, he made a point to pop in every now and then to keep them updated on how they were tracking. Q4 came and went and, after running the numbers, much to Justin's excitement, Deb's team knocked it out of the park and the promise of a night out on the town on the company card was promptly planned. The group headed to Track & Field bar to play bocce ball, shuffle board and fill their boots with Neapolitan style pizza. After a few stiff Old Fashioned's, Justin finally found the courage to ask Debbie out on a date. She naturally had her apprehensions but threw caution to the wind and agreed to a day out on Toronto Islands. The following Saturday brought some fantastic summer weather and the two hopped on the Tiki Taxi, cruising out to Hanlon's Point where they rented bikes and cycled their way around the island. After a fabulous day playing tour guide Justin asked Debbie if she'd like to join him for dinner at his favourite French bistro in his neighbourhood, Chantecler. To say the two hit it off would be an understatement, and after dinner they stumbled off to Justin's place where he played bartender and whipped up some summer cocktails. They took turns playing DJ, danced around the bedroom and Justin snuck a kiss on the deck in the pouring rain. The rest, as they say, is history!

The Proposal

Tulum

It was Deb's 30th birthday trip, a week spent in paradise on an idyllic beach in Tulum, Mexico. Our last day was ideal, lounging on the beach, soaking in every last ray of sunshine and taking full advantage of the two for one happy hour. Justin, far too engrossed in his phone "just looking at places to have lunch" was actually fending off the messages from back home including his future mother in-law asking if he was "getting cold feet". His reply, with quick wit "the only thing cold here is the ice in my drink" perhaps foreshadowed what was soon to come. Before heading out for their final romantic dinner, they were taking in the ocean view from their balcony one last time, when Justin suggested that Debbie pop into the safe to grab her jewellery. Deb, thinking nothing of it, typed in the code, swung open the door to find a] somewhat unexpected surprise! A blindingly-brilliant and beautiful engagement ring! Justin, sat on the foot of the bed was pretending to play on his phone but was secretly filming the whole moment! While he may not have gotten down on one knee, he managed to capture it all on film including Debbie's priceless reaction "Oh, my, god! Whaaaaaaaattttt!!'
