In 2009, we got placed in the same floor in residence at Western University. Two 18 year olds living away from home for the first time with 37 other students in Saugeen Maitland Hall, lovingly dubbed "The Zoo" on campus. It was Scott's first choice, and Brittany's last! That first year was full of hilarious nights and the start of a lifelong friendship. It wasn't until June, 2011 that we started dating. We thought it was earth-shattering news, but when we shared it with our friends and family, the unanimous response was: "well it's about time!"
In 2014, Scott was offered his first ever teaching job. But it was halfway across the country in Alberta. There were lots of tears, both happy and sad, but we decided to do long distance for a year while Scott pursued the incredible opportunity and Brittany built her marketing career in Toronto. Well, one trip to the mountains later and it was set: Brittany was moving to Edmonton! We've been living here ever since, growing what we love to refer to as our "little life" in a downtown condo with our precious pupper: Bubba.
On May long weekend, we set out on one of many trips to the mountains. We had rented a cabin with Bubba just outside of Jasper National Park and had a day of hiking, sightseeing and enjoying the outdoors lined up. One of our favourite places to go is the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. The property sits directly on Lac Beauvert, a turquoise blue lake with skating in the winter and canoeing in the summer. After many (unbeknownst to Brittany!) attempts to pop the question earlier in the day that got interrupted by other travelers and an actual bear on the trail, we rented a canoe and headed out on the water. A couple of drinks, tanning in 25 degrees and laughing at Bubba's antics in the canoe later, we paddled over to a secluded spot to take in the best view of Pyramid Mountain. Scott asked to take a photo of us and, excitedly, Britt pulled out her phone in selfie mode to capture the moment. After a few snaps, she noticed that Scott seemed to be holding something through the reflection in the camera. She flew around in her seat and Scott was down on one knee, asking the most beautiful question in most beautiful setting in the world! We then spent the rest of the weekend in a lakeside cabin getting pampered by the Fairmont. It was truly a dream and the absolute best day ever!
We can't wait to celebrate with you! See you this summer!
