Take a stroll through Downtown Salem. There is much to do and see. With an assortment of museums, great food, and historic buildings there is a little something for all!
This landmark was built in 1668 and is a treasure of American History. The House of the Seven Gables was built by one of the most successful maritime families in the 17th century and features historic architecture inside. You can experience Nathaniel Hawthorne's birthplace and this historic mansion through a guided tour. This experience also allows you to check out the Seaside Gardens.
Salem Maritime became the first park to receive designation of National Historic Site in 1938. This is a great spot for a stroll and is located very close to the Salem Waterfront hotel. Placards are located along the waterfront to explain the significance of each site.
If you are looking for some great food and drinks for lunch or dinner, check out Rockafellas. It offers indoor and outdoor seating. Like much of Salem this historic building was once a church, then became the National Exchange bank in the 1870's. You can also check out the bank vault door that is still in place today.
