We advise checking the most up-to-date entry requirements for South Africa, including those dependent on your country of citizenship. For US citizens, a visa is not required for stays of up to 90 days in South Africa, but your passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond your intended departure date. We encourage all guests to verify the entry requirements and travel documentation needed before embarking on their journey.
Please refer to the Travel section on this website.

For guests staying in Cape Town for an extended period, we recommend renting a car so that you can explore the city and surrounding area at your leisure. Alternatively, Uber is a safe, affordable and easily accessible option.
Summer Formal!

The local currency in South Africa is the South African Rand (ZAR). Guests can easily exchange their money by withdrawing cash from ATMs using a debit card that has no or low foreign transaction fees. ATMs are widely available in South Africa, including at major airports, shopping malls and tourist destinations. Guests can also exchange foreign currency at banks and currency exchange offices, but they may charge higher fees and offer less favorable exchange rates compared to ATMs. We recommend notifying your bank before traveling to South Africa to avoid any issues with your cards being blocked or frozen for suspicious activity. Additionally, Apple Pay is widely accepted in South Africa and paying with a credit card that has no or low foreign transaction fees is recommended whenever possible.
Cape Town experiences the beginning of summer and the start of the peak tourist season in December. The weather during this time of year is generally warm and sunny! The average temperature in Cape Town during December is around 25°C (77°F) during the day and 16°C (61°F) at night, although temperatures can vary depending on the location and time of day, with some areas experiencing slightly cooler or warmer temperatures. If you will be in Cape Town at the end of December, we recommend packing lightweight and breathable clothing, such as shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, and sandals. It's also a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings or air-conditioned indoor spaces. Additionally, it's recommended to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
There are multiple cell phone data options available for travelers visiting South Africa. One of the options is to purchase a SIM card after arriving in South Africa, which can be used in an unlocked cell phone to access local rates for data, calls and texts. Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom are some of the major mobile network providers in South Africa. Another option is to purchase an international data plan from your home country's mobile network provider. This will enable you to use your phone as you would at home, but with international data rates. Before traveling to South Africa, it's recommended that you research and compare the various options since prices and coverage may vary depending on the provider and plan. Additionally, make sure to verify if your phone is unlocked and compatible with South African networks. For newer iPhones, there's an eSim option available through Airalo.
