It’s worth remembering that the federal right to marry was only granted to same-sex couples in the United States in 2015. It is astonishing how recently this right was secured, and sobering how close we are to potentially losing it. The fight for equality is ongoing, and the stakes are deeply personal for us and for countless others in the LGBTQ+ community. With this in mind, we must address something that weighs heavily on our hearts. While we deeply love and value each of you, we also need to be clear about what our celebration stands for. To us, marriage is about building a life together on a foundation of love, respect, and shared values. *For this reason, we cannot welcome anyone to our wedding who supports political candidates or ideologies that actively work against LGBTQ+ rights, including the right to our marriage* This decision isn’t made out of anger or a lack of love—it’s made out of a commitment to our principles and our lives. We live openly as a same-sex couple every day, facing the challenges and joys that come with that. In the same way, we believe it’s time for those who support policies or candidates that oppose LGBTQ+ rights to stand by those choices publicly and honestly. We understand this may be difficult for some, and we respect everyone’s right to their beliefs. At the same time, we hope you can respect ours as we strive to create a space where our marriage and the values it represents are fully honored and celebrated.
