If you're up for a trip to L.A., Griffith Observatory provides one of the best views of the city - day or night. You can check out the planetary exhibits as well as their immersive shows. Telescopes are available at night for stargazing. The Hollywood sign hike is also nearby.
If you're up for a trip to L.A., the Huntington Gardens boast extensive (and stunning) gardens and galleries. Tickets should be purchased in advance! You can couple this with a stop in Old Pasadena - we recommend checking out the incredible City Hall.
If you're looking for a day trip, take the one-hour high-speed ferry to Catalina Island.
