Like all great love stories, ours started... on a dating app. I (Dana) had just moved back to California and decided to meet new people while I had some extra time during the post-grad school job hunt. Luke and I went on our first date on August 24, 2023, and I immediately knew that he was someone I connected with in a very natural way. We got to know each other quickly over our first few dates, walking the Huntington Beach pier, meandering through the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach, and picnicking by Tower 68 in Newport. In what seemed to be rather unfortunate timing, Luke left on vacation for two weeks. He called me almost every day - continuing our relationship with consistency and intentionality even while he traipsed through Europe with friends. We started officially dating shortly after he returned home, falling into each other's lives and communities with excitement and curiosity. I (Luke) first noticed Dana while perusing the digital dating scene known as Hinge. Observing her educational background, I complimented her on the intellectual and theological prowess that she had acquired from Wheaton, which she affirmed was the Harvard of Christian schools. On our first date at Ola, I kept the conversation light focusing on topics such as her shifting religious beliefs and the gerrymandering of Nashville, the city she had just moved from. Shockingly, after our third date, she said that I was still permitted to contact her while I travelled through Europe. I made sure to use my limited Wi-Fi time to FaceTime her and eagerly anticipated what could be when I returned. Following a friend's wedding at an equestrian center in Huntington Beach, I told her I loved her - something she said she would have told me if I hadn't said it first (I won!!). Through exploring new cities, long walks, art museums, Adele, and most of all, through the deep care of the people God has surrounded us with, we built what we have now. We cannot wait to begin our marriage in the presence of our family and closest friends.
