The west entrance is the most popular entrance into the park and for great reason. You can spend the extra time to drive around to another entrance and deal with traffic, though it takes much longer. You need both a park entrance pass and a vehicle reservation to enter the park. Vehicle reservations are only required during peak hours, 6 am-3 pm. Montana sun does not set during this time until 10 p.m. We will share some of our favorite hikes near the west entrance that are shorter and can easily be done after 3 p.m. and completed before 10 p.m. where you will also experience less crowds and more open trails. Separate from the vehicle reservation pass you will need a park entrance pass that can be purchased ahead of time or at the entrance. Check FAQ's and travel for info on both.
Whitefish is a historic and beautiful mountain town that is the perfect central hub. We love this little town, its history, old buildings, restaurants, dive bars, and more. Have our favorite breakfast at Buffalo Cafe and then spend the morning shopping at the local businesses and sipping coffee from one of the amazing local coffee/pastry shops. Then head up Whitefish Mountain where you can zipline or explore Whitefish bike park. If you prefer you can rent kayaks and spend the day on whitefish lake. There are so many possibilities here you can really create a nature-centered vacation that's perfect for anyone.
One of our favorite restaurants in Whitefish. Perfect for that amazing sit down dinner where there is something delicious on the menu for everyone. We really enjoy the pizza, pasta, and fresh fish. Cocktails here are fabulous! Reservations recommended.
There are several great breakfast spots in Whitefish. Our favorite is Buffalo Cafe! It's a perfect nostalgic homemade breakfast comfort food kinda place!
