Certified the best meat, seven days a week. Molly likes the pulled pork, Tyler likes the ribs. We agree you’ve got to get the Brussels sprouts.
Bayou Beer Garden
A beer garden AND a wine garden smooshed together.
Beignets
Cafe du Monde is the classic— either on Jackson Square or in City Park. Order a cafe au lait and an order of beignets. Be warned you may end up covered in powdered sugar.
Brunch at Willa Jean
Another James Beard winner, and Molly’s favorite. Never had a menu item we didn’t like. Go before 10am.
Brunch at Toast
A great little neighborhood brunch spot. Try the avocado toast and a Bloody Mary. Also, excellent bacon.
Cajun Food at Evangeline
A cozy indoor space with a great back patio. Very accessible to the rest of the French Quarter.
City Putt Miniature Golf Course
Mini golf, but make it New Orleans. Which means they stay open late, and they serve booze. Located in City Park, near the Art Museum and beignet stand.
Crawfish at Deanie's
March is crawfish season in New Orleans. This place offers trays of boiled crawfish and other seafood right on Magazine Street-- there is also a location in the French Quarter.
French Food at Cafe Degas
Amazing French onion soup, and an oak tree growing in the middle of the porch-converted-into-a-dining room.
Legendary Israeli food at Saba
You'll need to make a reservation in advance, but it's worth planning ahead to eat some of James Beard award-winning chef Alon Shaya's spherical pita bread.
Oyster Happy Hour at Superior Seafood
Tyler’s absolute favorite! Every day from 4-6:30, raw oysters for $6/dozen along with other treats for non-oyster fans. We highly recommend the frozen French 75.
Vietnamese food at Pho Tau Bay
New Orleans has a vibrant Vietnamese-American community with amazing restaurants. This is our favorite and a great option if you'll be staying beyond the weekend.
Cocktails at Cure
Nationally recognized for its excellent cocktails and host to many happy hours for the Tulane Medicine crew.
Cocktails at Hot Tin
Great city views and a speak-easy vibe. Ride the right-sided elevator to the penthouse in the Hotel Pontchartrain. Stop by the Plantation Room on your way out to see the famous artwork.
Gypsy Jazz and Wine at Bacchanal
Jazz and wine tucked down in the Bywater. A good place to hang outside in the afternoon.
Sample Local Beer at Miel Brewery & Taproom
Great local microbrewery. NOLA Brewery and Tchoup Yard are within walking distance as well.
Explore the History of Voodoo
The National Historic Voodoo Museum is small but fascinating.
Explore the New Orleans Museum of Art
There's also an amazing sculpture garden, which is free.
Visit the National WWII Museum
Admission is $25, but this is consistently rated one of the best museums in the country. It would take several visits to explore the entire museum— we recommend picking a theatre (Europe or Pacific) and tackling that exhibit, or viewing the massive hangar of airplanes.
Take a Ghost Tour
Tours abound, but we think the best ones are at night in the French Quarter.
Tour the Garden District
There are walking tours, audio tours... or you can take the St. Charles streetcar!
Visit Jackson Square
The St. Louis Cathedral, the River Walk, the heart of the French Quarter. Stop by Cafe du Monde for beignets (the line in the back is always shorter!) or peruse the souvenirs on display in the French Market.
Shop on Magazine Street
Five miles of shops and restaurants, most of them small local businesses.
Stroll Through City Park or Audubon Park
City Park is an enormous park in Mid-City with walking paths, an art museum, mini golf, and a beignet stand. Audubon Park is in the southwest section of the city and also boasts walking paths, as well as playgrounds and "The Fly," where you can sit along the river and watch the ships go by.
