Iconic bridge in the area; beautiful to drive over at sunset and also hop out to explore the woods and beaches near by.
Anacortes is a main port to adventure to the San Juan Islands. A personal favorite is Friday Harbor, located on San Juan Island (1 hour, 10 minute ferry ride). You can walk onto the ferry, and spend the day in the small town located right at the port, with a wide variety of cute places to eat by the water and shops to gander through.
This city is where Davis went to college, and where Matt would come visit a lot when they were doing long distance. They have plenty of recommendations and favorites if you're looking to do a day trip while you're in town: Food Favorites: Pel'meni Restaurant: **Required** must bring Matt back dumplings if you go here Jalapeños: Big Mamma margaritas and Mexican food Schweinhaus Biergarten: beer, German sausages, pretzels and cornhole - what else do you need? Aslan Brewery Outdoor Activities: Hike Oyster Dome (look out is available to drive up to about half way) Teddy Bear Cove (10-15 minute walk down to a little rock island in a cove, by the train tracks) Lake Padden (walk around the whole lake) Boulevard Park
About a 20 minute drive, there is cute strip of shops and restaurants in La Conner, right on the Swinomish Channel. If you're looking for short day trip, to see a quiet beautiful area by the water, this would be a great place to have lunch on a nice day!
If you're going to La Conner, you might need to stop at this little market, that has the BEST ice-cream in the area, and the largest "single" scoop you'll ever have. It's a local hot spot, especially when the weather is nice, and has a short nice hike to Fir Island starting at the next road over.
