A great park for kids and adults alike! Kids can play on the playgrounds and adults can set out a blanket for a nice picnic. It also boasts one of the best views of the Austin skyline in the city. They also host outdoor plays which are a great evening event!
This is a great place for SUP (stand-up paddleboarding), canoeing, and kayaking. Davis and I have spent many wonderful summers SUPing on Lady Bird Lake! Austin Rowing Club is another fun one and they have 9 am guided tours to see Austin from the lake on Saturdays and Sundays. https://austinrowing.org/guided-tours-and-events/
Our downtown library was one of Time Magazine's World's Greatest Places 2018, and has won many architecture awards. The rooftop garden is a great place to read a book or take in the beautiful river view. It has a great cafe, coffee shop and bar (yep, a bar) with fun drinks like "Tequila Mockingbird." There is also plenty for the kids to do, such as the giant chessboard, great kid-oriented reading rooms, and a hands-on tech room.
The Sculpture Garden is a beautiful outdoor garden to visit in Austin and a wonderful place for a leisurely stroll. Admission is $7 per adult ($3 with valid student ID, $5 for those 60+).
Rent bikes for the day to ride around downtown Austin or take a ride on the nearby Hike and Bike Trail. Kid's bike rentals are free with the rental of an adult bike. The shop is also home to a great coffee shop called Juan Pelota's.
This dance hall is an "authentic honkey-tonk" and has hosted the likes of Willie Nelson, George Straight, and Dolly Parton. You can learn the Texas two-step or grab some of its famous chicken-fried steaks and listen to live music. Check the website for event details.
