Davis and Haley's story begins, like many others do, with mutual friends. After attending a movie, Davis was eager to tag along with a friend to a house on the other side of town where a few folks were hanging out. When they arrived, there were a few long-time friends from soccer and some new faces. This group of young people with nothing to do and no where to go sat around a room of the McManus household chatting each other up, telling jokes, funny stories and generally doing nothing, but doing it together. For Davis, one of those new faces was Haley's. For Haley, all of the faces, both familiar and new, were unseen. They were hidden by her eye lids. That girl was bored, and very much asleep. Davis noticed the sleeping beauty sitting in the corner, snoozing in a room full of teenagers gabbing their heads off, and thought "Now who is THAT," as The Isley Brother's 1973 R&B hit "Who's That Lady" began to play in his mind. The next day, Davis asked mutual friends about that girl. He enlisted the help of a couple of her friends to gather intelligence. At what number can this hibernating Helen of Troy be reached? Is this slumbering stunner interested in a chit chat? Would this dozing Diana, the Roman goddess of the Moon, be interested in going to a movie? After much pestering from Davis and lobbying efforts from his co-conspirators on the inside, Davis and Haley's relationship began to hatch. Over the coming years, they would come to learn as much about themselves as they would about the other. A brief decade later, here we are. Davis likes to think that it was love at first sight, even if Haley's eyes were closed at the time.
