David used to live at the top of Telegraph Hill in North Beach (SF's Italian neighborhood). We used to enjoy hearing the sound of wild parrots squaking in the morning. There are lovely coffee shops and dining around the area. Highly recommend Caffe Trieste, Jesse Hellman (Father of the Groom)'s favorite! Or Molinari's Delicatessen (Tony Buzzelli's favorite!).
An excellent little shopping center full of Japanese specialty shops. For great skincare, check out "The Face Shop". For manga, interesting books, and collectables, check out Kinokuyia Book Store. And DEFINITELY stop at Uji Time for a Black Sesame (or Matcha) Ice Cream in a Taiyaki Cone (Taiyaki is a waffle-like cake in the shape of a fish. VERY CUTE!)
Ruins of an old bath house in the early 1900's. In ruins after a fire destroyed the facilities. Now, it's a beautiful national park. A lovely area to explore and catch the sunset. Also recommend exploring the nearby Sutro Heights Park. We almost had our wedding there. It's such a lovely view of the ocean.
One of the best cocktail bars in the Mission. SF's hipster neighborhood. Unassuming, and a cool vibe. Darkly lit. And in the evening, there's usually live music courtesy of the B Hammond organ permanently installed at the end of the bar.
Not far from the wedding ceremony venue, actually! A beautifully manicured tea garden to explore. Cost admission to enter. If you go, make time for some tea and mochi as a nice treat while you overlook the koi pond nearby.
An institution of the Mission District. Some nickname it “Hipster Beach”. But seriously, it is one of the best places to chill, people watch, and enjoy a picnic on the park. You can grab sandwiches or drinks at a nearby bodega, and relax on the grass. There also is a lovely little playground for kids. And a great view of the city skyline if you get to a high vantage point!
