How They MetHow They Met

Their story starts at a young adult event based in Brentwood, California. It was affiliated with a group of churches just beginning to collaborate to make an even bigger outreach toward young adults. Their first (and to this day only) big event was a BBQ that David attended. There he met a man named Dave, who hosted a young adult Bible Study out of his house as a part of Brentwood Neighborhood Church. The following Tuesday David attended this group. At that group meeting, Julia was in attendance. At the time she was known for her quietness, and the iPad she brought with her to doodle on. As David told his story, Julia would chime in with comments that she would later admit was in an attempt to get him to stay long enough to talk to her. After the Bible Study had concluded Julia pursued a conversation with David. He was out front already talking to their now mutual friend Derrick. The three had a good, deep, and lengthy conversation stretching into the wee hours in the morning. As they said goodbye Julia made it clear she was a regular attendee, but was going out of town the following week. The following Tuesday David did not attend. The Tuesday after they were both in attendance. After it concluded Julia had gotten David's number, as he asked her for hers very nonchalantly, and then never texted her. Once the two were connected digitally, they were inseparable, texting everyday morning to night. They began hanging out independently from Bible Study and got to know each other. After about 2 months of them texting and hanging out regularly they had a heart to heart where they realized they both were interested in each other. This conversation took place at 2 in the morning. By noon that same day David had asked her out on a date to see the Barbie Movie that evening at 8. She said yes. About 4 days later they officially became boyfriend-girlfriend, within the month they said "I love you".

The ProposalThe Proposal

David and Julia both knew within the first month that they wanted to get married. They also knew that they wanted to wait at least a year before getting engaged, giving themselves time to get to know one another better. By the time 12 months came around Julia had been pleading to David to propose sooner, and he denied the request as it was important to him to wait till their year mark. A month after their first year anniversary the pair went on a trip to Arizona where David had spent a significant time of his life, and she had not yet met any of the friends he made during that time. The initial plan was to take a day after their family and friends time for some solitude in the beautiful rocky areas of Sodona, Arizona. He had joked in passing that he wished he had thought of going to the London Bridge in Lake Havasu to propose as he thought it would've been funny, but he had made plans already. Julia agreed that it would be a very good story to tell, and mentally pouted that she wasn't going to get it. Instead, David took her to the beautiful city of Sodona. The red rocks David thought would have been a perfect place for a proposal. Instead of going on a walk somewhere nice, David fell ill and his plans had been foiled. That evening they decided to see how long away Lake Havasu City was to see if it was even worth the drive out there, and decided that it was. The following day they drove their way to Lake Havasu, stopping at a gas station to change into "dress clothes", and found their way to the London Bridge. At this point, they had learned they confused the London Bridge with the Tower Bridge (in London), and this bridge was much more mundane than initially anticipated. They also discovered it was a normal running bridge full of car traffic, and not the pedestrian bridge they imagined, but regardless they parked and walked their way to the bridge, walking along the sidewalk. After a minute, David got down on one knee and forever made their joke a piece of their history.
