Our Story

First comes love, then comes baby, then comes marriage...

Ours is a very modern love story. Eryn worked at one of David's favorite restaurants. David always wanted to talk to her, but didn't feel right about hitting on her while she was working. One day, David decided to "flirt just a little" and asked Eryn whether she had plans for Halloween. Eryn didn't get the hint and responded, "I'm probably not going out, because it's a full moon". This line is still quoted often. We didn't start talking until we matched on Tinder a while later. For our first date, David made Eryn vegetarian fish tacos and margaritas. Eryn is 0% vegetarian, but politely ate them anyway. David still makes those fish tacos each year for their anniversary. We had to navigate a lot in the early years, but throughout it all, there was a deep connection and a strong love that always held us together. David proposed to Eryn in La Jolla on a beach called Windansea. David told Eryn they were walking to dinner, but instead surprised her with a picnic on the beach (see photo above). As we walked up, David's sister and her family jumped out with signs that said "Will you marry me?". We already lived together, Eryn was already pregnant, and we had long since decided to spend our lives together. The proposal was more about wanting to celebrate our love and commitment in front of all of our friends and family. Which brings us here to Las Terrenas and all of you...

Why Las Terrenas?

We spent a month in the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2023. We had just closed on our new house and hadn't even moved in yet. The trip was a really special moment in our relationship. It was the start of a new phase, and we spent our time there planning our life together (including deciding to have another baby). Of all the places we visited, Las Terrenas was the most beautiful — with crystal clear turquoise water, surrounded by lush jungle, and the kind of calm that's rare to find. For our wedding, we wanted to come back to this special place and to share it with our friends and family. Travel is an important part of our family's life, and so a destination wedding was only right!

Why Valentines Day Weekend?

There are four reasons we chose this date: 1. It's a great time to escape the Midwest cold 2. It's a lovely time of year in DR (plus whale watching season) 3. It's Valentine's Day - of course 4. It's Eryn's adoption day
