How We Met

30 Below

David: At Lakewood Church there is a young adults group that is currently being led by Alisa and Mark Sandin. I knew Mark and Alisa for years because of their three kids. When they started teaching the young adults group they invited Bailey and I separately to attend it. We hadn't known each other at the time. After Alisa talked her up and added us to a group message on Facebook, I took the opportunity of stalking her. I mean, Alisa made it so easy. I discovered very quickly that Bailey is a #socialmediabutterfly. Bailey: Before we met in person, David sent me a message over Facebook and introduced himself and let me know that he stalked me to see if we already knew each other. Of course, I thought he was creepy. We met in June in 2016 and when I actually met him I thought he looked like a pirate because he wore bandanas. Still, the more he talked about his passion for ministry during the first few weeks of our young adults group, the more I felt like there was something about him that made me want to spend more time with him and get to know him. David: I thought she was an angel. Knowing her ministry background I knew she would be a good fit for me as I had started studying for a youth pastors degree. Then I had the chance to hear her voice. Let's just say the first few 30 Below sessions were challenging to stay focused at with her around. But I had made a commitment to a summer of solitude, so I waited all summer before asking her out. Oh the torture... Bailey: One week at our young adults group, I brought up a prayer request for a friend of mine who was having health issues. It was really hard for me to talk about, and I was very emotional and started crying. David was the first person to start praying, and as soon as he did, I felt so much peace and I knew that everything was going to be ok. I knew then that he was the person who God made for me to spend the rest of my life with because no one had ever made me feel so safe and loved before that moment.

How We Got Together

10-28-16

David: After a summer of getting to know each other, I took her for a ride around Crosby. I had gone on a couple missions trips with Lakewood to the area and I wanted to show her a few things we had worked on and share a few stories. I took her to the skate park parking lot last. It was there where I first asked her out. Ironically, one might say that was our first date. Afterwards, we played a few rounds of Catan with her roommate so I knew she was the one. Bailey: I had been wanting David to ask me out for a few months after we started to get to know each other, so when I woke up and saw a text from David asking me to hang out, I immediately ran into my living room where my roommate was and asked her if she got a text from him. When she said that she hadn't gotten a text from him, I started freaking out. We had never hung out just the two of us before, so I knew that it was a date. After calling my sister and having her calm me down from my freak out, I texted him back that I would love to hang out with him. We ended up at the skate park in Crosby on Serpent Lake, and he told me that he was wanting to ask me out for a while, but he was so nervous. We hung out with friends for the rest of the day playing games and talking. I couldn't have imagined a more perfect first date.

How he proposed

5-22-2017

Bailey: David and I had talked seriously about getting married for a couple months by our 7th month of dating. I didn't expect it to happen for a long time, so I was super surprised when David told me that he was about to ask my dad for his permission. We went ring shopping a couple times together, and I was there when he bought my engagement ring. After he bought the ring, I started dreaming up all the ways that I could think of on how he would propose. It didn't take too much time for me to come up with an idea of how he would ask me that turned out to be exactly what he had planned to do. I know him so well:) I knew that he would want some people who are special to the both of us there when it happened, and I knew that he would want to take me for a ride on the motorcycle. So when he asked me to go for a ride with him and the Sandins on May 22, I knew that he was going to propose. David: I confess, I was not very good at keeping it a surprise. But I did make her wait a whole month after I asked for her father's blessing. Poor girl. Even so, she saw it coming. And even though rain made plan A not work out, the Sandins saved the day with plan B. They took us to a beautiful park where their son, Jared, had his grad photos. It was perfect.
